Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brian & Melissa Curran. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brian & Melissa, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
Generosity, Grace, Mercy, and Love are the only true actions and feelings that are needed to be a helping hand, shoulder to lean or cry on, and to minister to one another with love and support without judgement.
As a child of God, it is our job to show each of these to every person, every encounter. Some of us are born with an innate purpose in this life, and others understand their purpose as they grow in their relationship with our Lord and Savior.
We have been blessed with servant’s hearts and the ability to offer all we have to others.
The teachings of the BIBLE are where we learn that all of the teachings, stories and parables breakdown to LOVE. Love each other, We live our lives to that. Yes. we are human and fail daily and fall short of the glory of GOD, but striving to be a better version of ourselves today than we were yesterday the goal we set for ourselves each day.
People have free-will, choices and what decisions or actions are taken dictate how the day, situation or encounter work out in the end. As for us, as a couple and as individuals, we choose to walk by faith and love on everyone.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Here at Crockett Lakefront RV Resort & Marina, we focus on family, fun, and relaxation. Our main focus is our guests and their experience here. We have many full-time employees, and management, as well as work campers that live on the property,
We are the sweetest hidden gem in East Texas and want to spread the word that we are here! December of 2022, this property was bought by a trio of businessmen who want to mine the magic in the bones of this park, and we have made $750K in upgrades and improvements including a brand-new bath house, Fiber Optic Wi-Fi throughout the grounds and a brand-new mini golf course. Let’s not forget that we have some of the best fishing in Texas on Houston County Lake!
The team we have been blessed with are all in one accord. WE LOVE THIS PLACE! You will find that our team is knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and will go above and beyond to make sure your stay is the best one possible.
The best thing is that we offer day passes for people who aren’t camping with us so that more people can experience and enjoy the amenities. While we do have 33 cabins and 116 RV sites available to rent, we offer a safe place for everyone to play here!
Our team works diligently to make sure our grounds, bathrooms, and store are all clean and maintained every day.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In our lives, before embarking on full time rv living, Melissa was in hospitality and office management for 30 years and Brian was in industrial maintenance for over 30 years. We believe that these careers helped us understand and gain experience to enable us to be able to manage a large property like this. While we have never been in this position for this industry, we are working hard and learning every day.
We have been full time in our RV since July of 2022. We researched for months to make sure that we were ready for this journey. We started work camping in Monticello, IN where I worked in the office/store for the Summer season. We spent September through November in Mission, TX before we received a call from the same managers that I worked with in Monticello that they were managing a property in East, TX and needed help with the office. December 5, 2022, we arrived in Crockett.
After working in the office for about 3 months, we were informed that the management team was moving on to their Summer destination and Melissa was promoted to General Manager along with Brian as co-manager.. Neither of us have ever done any of this before. We are learning as we go and are so excited to be here!
Our advice to anyone who is starting the same kind of journey is do your research and ask questions, join Facebook groups for the journey you are wanting., We have learned so much from other’s experiences. and offer a lot of information when we can.
We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
When we only play to our strengths, we weaken ourselves. Think about this, if you are working out to build big muscles, you work out your entire body. If you only work on the right side of your body, you are only half as strong as you could be with both sides of your body building muscle together. Which is why we are taught to work each section of our body separately in order to make the entire body work stronger. Areas where skills are weak can bring feelings of frustration that can be overwhelming. You must seek knowledge from another who are stronger in it and can provide insight and wisdom. When you strive to learn and grow, your weaknesses become stronger.
