Meet Briana Campbell

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Briana Campbell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Briana, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience? It’s undoubtedly inherited from my mother, the epitome of strength in my eyes. She’s a beacon of perseverance, having triumphed over both domestic violence and breast cancer. As a career woman who single-handedly raised four children, her resilience was more than just words—it was a living example for us. She instilled in us the belief that true failure isn’t in falling down, but in refusing to rise and try again. Her life taught us to embrace our setbacks as lessons, urging us to approach challenges with a renewed perspective and an improved approach. That’s the ethos I bring into every aspect of my life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m the proud owner of La Verte, a natural skincare company that’s at the intersection of nature and technology. Our mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle by offering skincare products that help you achieve your best skin. My journey from being a Civil Engineer to a Licensed Esthetician has been fueled by a passion for blending scientific innovation with natural ingredients.

What makes La Verte truly special is its foundation in inclusivity and multiculturalism. It’s a brand born out of love, initially inspired by my desire to find effective skincare solutions for my son. This personal connection drives our commitment to genuinely caring for our customers’ well-being.

I want people to know that La Verte isn’t just a brand; it’s a partner in your journey towards healthier living. We’re here to support you every step of the way with products that are as nurturing as they are effective.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Reflecting on my journey, three key qualities stand out:

1. A relentless appetite for learning. The entrepreneurial journey is a continuous learning curve. There’s always something new to discover that can enrich not just your business, but also you as an individual. Embrace every opportunity to learn; it’s a powerful tool that keeps you evolving.

2. The ability to accept and utilize constructive criticism. It’s crucial to understand that not every piece of feedback is a personal attack. As a business owner, you can’t afford to be overly sensitive. Use criticism as a stepping stone to better your venture. Often, listening carefully and adapting can be the catalyst for growth.

3. Understanding that your product or service won’t appeal to everyone – and that’s perfectly fine. This isn’t a reflection of your worth or the quality of your work. It simply means that what you offer has a specific audience. Recognize this early, and it will save you much heartache and help you focus on catering to those who truly value what you provide.

For those just starting, my advice is to cultivate these qualities. Stay open-minded, be receptive to feedback, and always remember that your target audience is key. This mindset will not only help in personal development but also lay a strong foundation for your business.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
This past year has been a profound learning experience for me, marked by a significant growth in embracing vulnerability in my business. Around June, I faced a devastating setback: a massive theft that stripped me of all my inventory and vending equipment, leaving me with nothing. As someone resilient by nature, I initially pushed through the crisis without fully grasping its impact.

The real challenge emerged in the following months. With no inventory, I found myself manufacturing products on-demand for each order, an unexpected strain on both time and resources. Additionally, the need to rapidly replace expensive equipment for tradeshows and events was financially and emotionally taxing. Gradually, I felt overwhelmed, caught between financial pressures and exhausting time management challenges.

It wasn’t until a close friend and business consultant intervened that I realized the need for relief. They advised me to share my situation with my customers, a daunting thought for someone who values privacy and independence. However, I took a leap of faith and opened up about my ordeal in a formal email to my customers. The response was overwhelming; the kindness, words of encouragement, and support I received were invaluable. This experience taught me the power of vulnerability, not just as a personal trait, but as an essential aspect of resilient entrepreneurship.
