Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Briana West. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Briana, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?
Dealing with haters and naysayers is an inevitable part of any creative journey. By staying true to myself, building a strong support network, and cultivating resilience, I am able to overcome negativity and continue to thrive. I won’t say it has been the easiest thing to do, because there are times I want to react. During those times, I remember, that my journey is unique, and my passion is what drives me forward. The key is stay focused on what I love and remind myself to let my success speak for itself. No weapon formed against me shall prosper.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My Story
Greetings! I’m DJ Bri-Z (Breezy), a dedicated and energetic DJ based in Ohio. My passion for music began at a young age, heavily influenced by my late father Tracy and my late step father Roy. It has led me to pursue a career where I can share my love for beats and rhythms with others. Over the years, I’ve developed a unique sound that blends various genres, creating an immersive experience for my audience.
What I Do
As DJ Bri-Z, I focus on creating memorable experiences. I do private events: from weddings and corporate events to birthday parties, I tailor my music selection to create and match the vibe and preferences of my clients, ensuring everyone has an unforgettable time.
What’s Exciting and Special
What excites me the most about being DJ Bri-Z is the ability to create a unique atmosphere with every performance. Music has the power to evoke emotions and create connections, and I strive to harness that power in every set I play. Being a DJ allows me to be both an artist and a performer, constantly evolving and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in music.
Current Focus
Right now, my primary focus is on two key areas. Expanding My Reach: I’m working on broadening my audience by performing at more diverse venues and events, both within Ohio and beyond. This includes collaborating with other artists and participating in music festivals and concerts. Enhancing My Skills: I am continually refining my skills, experimenting with new techniques and technologies to stay ahead of the curve and deliver cutting-edge performances.
I am beyond excited to announce that I will be the DJ for MusicLee2’s, The Unleashed Tour’s, Detroit show for his new album release in August. This tour is set to be an extraordinary journey, and I can’t wait to bring my energy and expertise to the stage alongside such a talented artist.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey as a DJ, I can pinpoint three key qualities that have been most impactful in shaping my career: passion for music, adaptability, and technical proficiency. These elements have not only defined my path but also helped me stand out in a competitive industry.
Passion for Music:
My passion for music is the driving force behind my success. It fuels my creativity, keeps me motivated, and helps me connect with my audience on a deeper level. Without a genuine love for music, it’s hard to sustain the energy and dedication needed to excel as a DJ.
Adaptability: The ability to adapt to different environments, audiences, and trends is crucial. Whether it’s reading the crowd, or embracing new technologies, adaptability ensures me to stay relevant and able to handle any situation.
Technical Proficiency
Learning to master the technical aspects of DJ’ing is essential. This includes understanding my equipment, software, and the fundamental of blending tracks together.
Advice from me:
Learn the Basics: Start with the fundamentals of DJing, such as beatmatching, cueing, and transitioning between tracks. Invest in quality equipment and learn how to use it effectively.
Experiment with Software: Familiarize yourself with different DJ software and tools. Experiment with features and functionalities to find what works best for your style.
Continuous Learning: Never stop learning. Take online courses, watch tutorials, and practice regularly to refine your skills. Stay updated with new tools and techniques in the industry.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
Recently, I’ve been facing a particular challenge that has deeply affected me: grief. Losing someone close to you can turn your world upside down, and it’s something many of us will face at some point in our lives. Facing grief while maintaining a career and motherhood has been challenging. If you are reading this, and experiencing the same, it is important to remember that it’s okay to seek help and take the time you need to heal. Music has been a lifeline for me, and I hope it can be for you too. If you’re going through a similar experience, know that you’re not alone, and there are resources and people ready to support you.
