We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brieanna Lightfoot Smith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brieanna, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
My confidence and self-esteem have been hard won. As a teenager, I struggled so much with my worth and identity that I considered ending my life. It wasn’t until I found my identity in Christ and grew confident in who He created me to be that I started showing up in places unapologetically. I learned to walk into a room not to connect with the most influential person but to make at least one person’s day a little better than before I met them. I learned to show up on calls with clients not like they had done me a favor by investing in my offer but like they’d just made the best investment they could have because I knew I possessed knowledge that could help lead to their transformation.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m Brieanna Lightfoot Smith, the owner of Brands by Brie. We are a coaching and consulting company equipping mompreneurs and female corporate side hustlers with the tools and training they need to build influential businesses that allow them to generate an additional $500 to $1500 monthly so they can feel more financially free. Over the past 24 months, we’ve been able to serve over 120 women across a dozen industries through 1:1 coaching, group coaching and strategic partnerships with Texas Women’s University and the Dallas Entrepreneurship Center’s WEDallas program.
I got started with this work because I felt a deep connection with the 1.1 million women who left the workforce in 2020 as a result of the pandemic. According to the PEW research center these women wanted more work-life balance and were in a place where they could either not afford childcare or they did not have access to it.
As a fellow mom who also happened to run a business I knew the flexibility entrepreneurship had provided for me so I set out to help other women like myself so they could have the same kind of time, energy and financial flexibility.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Faith, resilience and teachability. I am someone who prides myself on learning more, believing for the best and pivoting when necessary. To anyone who is just now starting out I would say 1) you have to start somewhere and 2) done is better than perfect. I know we want to put things out in excellence but wanting something to be perfect often holds us back from making any progress.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is a woman who is committed to building a legacy. She is likely working a full-time job or has recently left a full-time job so she can be more present with her family. This woman is highly intelligent, wears a lot of hats both personally and professionally and she cheers everyone in her circle on. Which is part of the reason she likes getting to work with me. My clients often find that our coaching sessions are for them what they are for so many people in their circles of influence – a place to come and get sound advice, to be challenged and also to be encouraged.
My ideal client wants to build wealth but doesn’t want to burn herself out to do it.
She values rest and quality time with her family, even if she doesn’t feel like she’s not getting enough of it.
