Meet Brigitte Carucci and Vicki Harrison

We were lucky to catch up with Brigitte Carucci and Vicki Harrison recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
We live in the town where we work, so it’s important to us to continue to give back to the community where we raise our family. Whether it’s through using interns from the local vocational school, raising funds for renovate a local playground, donating money from our events, or starting a non-profit to bring more music and arts to town, we’ve found ways to connect our work with helping our community, and it’s been the foundation of our business.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
It started with a little sketch of how we could redesign old school diner placements with a fresh look, while highlighting other local businesses. Our first two years, we worked out of Dunkin’ Donuts, our cars and our living rooms. We’ve introduced many different products, services and events to the community in our eight years of doing business, but the forefront is always highlighting small businesses and the communities they serve.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1 – Don’t be afraid to pivot. An action that became really popular during the pandemic, of course, we have re-evaluated and changed course every few years to keep our business moving forward.

2 – Take the meeting. We are always down for a short meeting (we can be bribed with coffee) with literally anyone. Some of our best moments come out of meetings where we didn’t know what we were walking into! It could be a new collab, an opportunity to brainstorm, or just another like-minded entrepreneur to connect with.

3 – Don’t lose your focus. Too often businesses forget the focus of their business (remember when McDonald’s made pizza or when Burger King made tacos?), and when you get distracted, so does your customer. Our core, in nearly everything we do, is serving small businesses and local communities.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Over the years, we have hosted or run several events, and it turns out we’re really good at them! Between our business and our non-profit, we are running over twenty different events this year! We wanted to really lean in to events and fill voids that exist in the community, and the best way to do that is to roll up our sleeves, pull out the calendar and run them!
