Hi Brionya , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from my Faith and knowing I have strength to get me through every trial and obstacle that comes along the way. Every “no” that has been told, every failure that turned into a lesson has matured me to the Artist that I am today. Persevering through it all has made me appreciate my wins that much more, celebrating every milestone and blessing that come from doors of opportunity and accomplishments.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Brionya J. Mathews, owner of Brionya James Creations, is an international fine artist who has succeeded to share and sell her beautiful work across the world. Originally from Austin, TX, she has made an impactful foundation with the recognition and support from the city of Houston which she considers her second home of 7 years. Brionya has recently transitioned from everything she once knew by marrying into the military to her supportive husband and business partner, which has enabled her to take advantage of traveling abroad and embrace cultural studies of Fine Art. This surreal experience has given her an opportunity to learn from historical masters before her time and apply similar techniques to her own work.
“BJC is a conceptual gallery of paintings that have derived from personal inspiration, conversations, revelations and a continuous learning process of life. I consider myself a God Taught Artist because as I create, I know that it’s not just me but the divine spirit of God orchestrating the hues, elements, and overall vision that resonates with the hearts of many.”
BJC tends to reflect on Black Essence, Love and Appreciation for the African American Culture. Universal pieces are also created for all to relate to in a symbolic and imaginative way.
“My goal is to have my work speak to the masses and teach to other aspiring artists of all ages. I’m determined to continuously educate myself to better my skills so I can share my knowledge and techniques to a creative community willing to learn. Each generation is destined to be better than the last so while I’m running this marathon, I’m preparing to pass the baton to the next greatest artists in line.”
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
As a Faith Based Artist, I lean on the scripture “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” – Galatians 6:9 NIV. As a full time business owner since 2016, despite the rollercoaster ride of entrepreneurship, I’ve learned that having good intentions to help others elevate through your gifts and talents is an impactful gift that keeps on giving. Whether thats by teaching your skills or sharing your work with the world, you are planting seeds that will one day feed future generations. Creativity is medicine for the soul, it can heal hearts and spark inspiration. So if you have a gift of singing, music, dancing etc. share it. Don’t hold back from letting your light shine because your journey can help spark the fire for someone else’s purpose filled journey to start!
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
I hope when I look back on elaborating on this challenge, that I can say I’ve successfully overcame and surpassed with flying colors. My biggest wall I have yet to jump over is getting my work recognized in the respected eyes of art galleries and museums. I want to transition from being an online influence which I have down pact to a more hands on approach with getting my pieces in front of audiences that are long term art collectors, investors that appreciate the value of art and understand the quality, authenticity, and story that each piece carries. Each piece is a page to the diary of my heart. That alone is priceless.
