We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Britnee Scott a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Britnee, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
For one I always pray about the things I want to change within myself and the things around me which helps me stay focus and have a sense of clarity for my next painting or creation. I also take time to study and read books ive gathered from various artist and museums. It helps me to think outside of the box and prepare myself. Lastly remain consistent. Even when Im not in the studio painting Im drawing or sketching.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a graffiti folk artist born and raised in Washington, DC. I paint and create wearable art. I have been at this art thing since a kid. I have always felt like an outsider because nobody else was into art in my neighborhood. Everybody was playing sports or something but I wanted to do art. I tried playing basketball at one point and I really enjoyed it but I found myself loving to roller blade, skateboard, sewing, and drawing was alot more fun for me. When I am creating these days those childhood memories are always in the back of mind. Thats the most exciting part. Being able to experiment, explore, and try new methods and things.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three quality skills to me were always communicating effectively and efficiently with people, determination, and being open minded. These qualities were very impactful for me throughout this journey because along the way I’ve had loops, turns, set backs, ups and downs but my determination allows me to learn and grow. I appreciate criticism and honesty when it comes to my work. Some people are negative just to because but true constructive criticism has made me more open minded and aware. Without these things I wouldn’t be able to become better each time I pick up a paint brush.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always looking to collaborate with artist and brands because I believe thats how you develop and help each other grow. The purpose of a collaboration is not to steal its to genuine share great energy and skill. Its to assist each other when we feel like we’re not the best version of ourselves, uplift, and become something we’ve never been. We share and embrace each other’s ideas and skills. Only to become wider and broaden our work ethic and ability.
