We were lucky to catch up with Brittani Mack recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brittani, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
Understanding that there is an intersectionality with all of us and that we have more in common than we have differences, we have different lived experiences that often times can be the very thing that keeps us together. I take my time to learn people and find things that I can speak on based on my own lived experiences
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am the Founder and Podcast Host for Tech Me As I Am where we focus on bringing self love to corporate America by means of authentic human lived experiences.
When I started my self love journey about 5 years ago now I didn’t realize how much I needed to love me and just didn’t have the right tools in the tool belt because I was always rejecting being an emotional person, when that’s who I was all along.
When I realized I had finally found the key to unlocking what the human experience really is about (being vulnerable) my world changed, and I decided to bring those who were willing to listen on the journey with me.
Tech Me As I Am helps companies build deeper connections with their employees and customers through authentic storytelling. We create customized video series featuring therapists, executives, and everyday heroes to inspire and engage audiences. By sharing personal stories of self-love and human experience, we foster a more empathetic and connected
workplace.
We launch our second iteration and series on 11/11.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three Most Impactful Qualities:
Self-Awareness: Understanding my thoughts, feelings, and behaviors was crucial. It allowed me to identify patterns, triggers, and limiting beliefs.
Vulnerability: Sharing my authentic self, even when it felt uncomfortable, deepened my connections with others and helped me heal.
Resilience: The ability to bounce back from setbacks and challenges was essential. It allowed me to learn from mistakes and keep moving forward.
Advice for Early-Stage Journeyers:
Practice Mindfulness: Engage in activities like meditation or journaling to become more present in the moment. This will enhance your self-awareness.
Embrace Vulnerability: Share your thoughts and feelings with trusted friends, family, or a therapist. Vulnerability can foster deeper connections and personal growth for your current self and future self.
Cultivate Self-Compassion: Treat yourself with kindness and understanding, especially during difficult times. Practice self-care and avoid self-criticism.
Seek Support: Join support groups or find a mentor to provide guidance and encouragement.
Set Realistic Goals: Break down your self-love journey into smaller, achievable steps. Celebrate your progress, no matter how small.
Remember, self-love is a journey, not a destination. Be patient with yourself, and enjoy the process of becoming your best self all day, everyday.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle has had a profound impact on my development. It’s a book that helped me shift my perspective and find inner peace. Here are a few of the most valuable nuggets of wisdom:
The Power of the Present Moment: Tolle emphasizes the importance of being fully present in the here and now. By focusing on the present moment, we can reduce stress, anxiety, and negative emotions.
The Ego and Its Role in Suffering: This was a big one for me, because the ego, our sense of self, often creates unnecessary suffering through its constant desires, fears, and judgments. By becoming aware of the ego’s workings, we can begin to detach from it and experience greater freedom.
The Importance of Acceptance: Accepting what is, rather than resisting it, is a key to inner peace. By accepting the present moment, we can release the struggle and find contentment.
The Path to Enlightenment: Tolle talks about a pathway to spiritual awakening, which involves cultivating mindfulness, letting go of the ego, and connecting with our true nature.
Whenever I feel like I am in need of a recharge this self help book is definitely the go to.
