Meet Brittani Starr

We were lucky to catch up with Brittani Starr recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittani , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I love this question and at the same time, it’s so layered.
I’d like to explain that my purpose has changed throughout the years. You see, you are drawn to different things for a reason. When you pursue these passions you find where you are needed. This can keep changing throughout your life. I created an Intuition Activation course which helps narrow down what to pay attention to to gain more clarity from your intuition.
I’ve been doing a combination of Astrology, Numerology, and Human Design to find your purpose. I have a good time doing these charts. I find when people are succeeding their purpose looks obvious because they are living it. I tell them not to change a thing.
I find myself looking back these days giggling at how I’m pretty much doing what I used to do growing up in the country; choreographing, writing songs, writing stories, and poems. I’m pretty much reviving my childhood with better technology. How grateful I am to be in a position to do this. I believe everyone should follow what they are passionate about and this is how we create a better world.
My purpose is definitely about working with indie creators from around the world. I am most passionate about creating a world for the people by the people and by that I mean each person lives fulfilling their purpose, our schools teach us how to get more in touch with ourselves work through trauma, and regulate emotionally. This is Zarlequan, the indie-verse.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m Brittani Starr, a multi-talented producer, director, author, music artist, and indie filmmaker. I wear many hats, but my core passion lies in storytelling across various mediums. At Zarlequan Productions, I spearhead innovative projects that push the boundaries of independent filmmaking. My work involves not just overseeing the production process but also diving deep into the creative aspects of each project, ensuring that every story we tell is compelling and authentic.

What I find most exciting about my work is the ability to create immersive worlds and characters that resonate with audiences. As an author, my writing explores themes that are both personal and universal, often drawing from my own experiences and observations. My book series, “The Gnosis of Zarlequan,” has been particularly fulfilling, allowing me to blend my love for fantasy and profound storytelling.

In music, I enjoy crafting and performing unique pieces that blend various genres and influences. My music videos, such as “Outside Cat,” combine humor and creativity, providing a fresh and entertaining experience for viewers.

Our brand, Zarlequan Indie-Verse, is dedicated to celebrating and empowering indie artists, authors, and visionaries. We’ve built a vibrant community that supports and promotes independent creativity, offering resources and platforms for emerging talents to shine.

Currently, we are working on several exciting projects. One of the highlights is our upcoming short film, “The Gnosis of Zarlequan,” which I am directing and starring in. We start shooting this year. Additionally, we are currently filming “Craperite,” a short streaming series with a campy superhero feel. This project is particularly special to me as it brings together many of my passions: writing, directing, and acting.

We will also be touring across the United States and filming an interview with award-winning author Rebecca Heidt. During this tour, we will attend an event to be announced later. We’re also excited to be filming the music video for the Sabbats album. Afterward, we will fly to Romania to continue filming the rest of our movies and videos until we meet up with Rebecca in Bulgaria to film her feature film, “Secrets of the Warrior.” Rebecca Heidt is not only a phenomenal author but also one of our dedicated coaches, helping aspiring writers become published and turn their stories into movies.

Our coaching services are expanding, offering aspiring writers the opportunity to become published authors and award-winning storytellers. We also host a new podcast series, “Conversations with Indie Authors,” where we interview talented indie authors and explore their creative journeys.

I’m thrilled about these developments and look forward to sharing more unique stories and innovative projects with our audience. Stay tuned for more exciting announcements and releases from Zarlequan Productions!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Reflecting on my journey, I believe three qualities have been particularly impactful: resilience, intuition, and resourcefulness.

Resilience: My experience of being homeless in the LA area as a teen taught me resilience in its truest form. It was a challenging period, but it instilled in me the strength to overcome obstacles and keep pushing forward. This resilience has been a cornerstone of my success, allowing me to navigate the unpredictable world of independent media and filmmaking.

Intuition: Over the years, I’ve developed a strong intuition, which has been crucial in both my personal and professional life. I’ve learned to trust my gut feelings—whether it’s reading people, spotting a scam, or deciding on the right direction for a project. When something feels off, it often is, and listening to that inner voice has saved me from many potential pitfalls.

Resourcefulness: I’ve always been great at researching and figuring out how to achieve whatever I set my mind to. If there’s something I need to know or do, I dive into research and learn everything I can about it. This proactive approach has enabled me to handle diverse challenges and seize opportunities with confidence.

My best advice for those early in their journey:

Develop Resilience: Life and career will throw unexpected challenges your way. Embrace these moments as opportunities to grow stronger. Cultivate a mindset that sees failure as a stepping stone to success.

Trust Your Intuition: Your intuition is a powerful tool. Take time to get in touch with it and learn to trust it. When something feels right, focus and pursue it relentlessly. Conversely, if something feels off, don’t ignore that feeling. Your intuition is often your best guide.

Be Resourceful: Cultivate the ability to research and learn independently. Whatever it is you need to do, there’s likely a way to learn how to do it. Dive into books, and online courses, and seek out mentors. Being resourceful will empower you to tackle challenges and achieve your goals effectively.

By honing these qualities—resilience, intuition, and resourcefulness—you can navigate the complexities of any journey and turn challenges into opportunities. Always trust your inner voice and never stop learning. Your path may not always be straightforward, but these skills will guide you toward success.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

I love this question. The most impactful thing my parents did for me was to cultivate an environment that celebrated creativity and encouraged the pursuit of dreams. My dad played music and took risks to follow his passions. To this day, he acts on stage, is the lead vocalist of a band, and makes his own music. My mom creates absolutely gorgeous art from recycled items and various paint and art mediums.

Their example and support gave me the freedom to explore my creativity without fear of persecution or manipulation. I was encouraged to dream big and to pursue my passions wholeheartedly. It wasn’t until later in life that I fully realized how lucky I was to have that kind of support and freedom. It is a beautiful gift that has profoundly shaped who I am today.
