Meet Brittany Brown

We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

I didn’t find my purpose per se, I believe in some aspect I’ve always had it, but was lost and needed a little tuning. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had a camera on me, capturing the universe as I saw fit; the things I lived and the things that lived around me. In 2017, I started sharing these pieces of my life on social media, not with any real plan, but simply because I loved documenting experiences. Over time, I realized that my posts weren’t just about me—they were also shining a light on local businesses and the incredible communities around me. That organic sharing eventually grew into Britt Around Town in 2019.

But it wasn’t until the world shut down during COVID-19 that I truly understood the impact of what I was doing. People began turning to my page to find out who was still open, where to order curbside pickup, and how to support small businesses in a time of uncertainty. Some business owners even told me that the exposure I provided helped them stay afloat during one of the hardest times they had ever faced. That was the moment I realized—this is bigger than just sharing places I love.

This is why this has become my passion and what I truly believe is my purpose.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Britt Around Town is a travel and lifestyle social media account and website dedicated to showcasing the charm of small-town America, local businesses, and hidden gems you can discover without venturing far from home – no matter where that may be. Through storytelling, photography, and firsthand experiences, I highlight unique places to eat, shop, stay, and explore—encouraging others to become tourists in their own backyards. Whether it’s a family-run café, a historic downtown, or an agritourism experience on a local farm, my goal is to support the dreamers behind small businesses and bring attention to communities that deserve to be seen and celebrated. Every place I feature is somewhere I’ve personally visited and fully believe in, and I’m passionate about creating content that not only inspires travel but also fosters meaningful connections between people and the places they visit.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I’d have to say looking back I’ve learned a lot, ventured to places I’ve never been, and helped communities during and after the pandemic that undoubtedly impacted lives. I’ve heard stories that have made me have a newfound purpose for what I do.

Because of this I have learned how important it is to step out of comfort zones, to not compare myself to others and that failure is not the end of the road.

By breaking out of comfort zones you can experience some incredible things you might never have dreamed of.

One of the biggest things I can say as far as advice is to always keep getting back up even if you “fail”. Stop comparing yourself to others and be authentically YOU.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

BALANCE.

Balance is absolutely my biggest challenge at the moment. Between being a content creator, social media manager and also making time for family and friends, this is an area I have been struggling with.

There’s so much I want to do, and I often find myself pulled in multiple directions, trying to give 100% to everything at once.
Lately, I’ve been working on setting clearer boundaries and creating a schedule that allows me to be present in all areas of my life.

I have learned that old saying “you can’t pour from an empty cup” rings true. I have been starting to dedicate some “me” time within my work and my personal life. Which has been incredibly important for my well being and relationships.

I’m learning, adjusting, and reminding myself that it’s okay not to have it all figured out right away.
