Meet Brittany Hohl

We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Hohl recently and have shared our conversation below.

Brittany, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My parents, for sure. I honestly cannot remember a time when they were not hustling to ensure that our family had all that we needed. Both of my parents entered the workforce straight out of high school and it’s beyond impressive to see all they have built from pure hard work and dedication.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
It’s hard to really put into words what it is that publicists do these days because this industry has ebbed and flowed dramatically over the years. At the end of the day, we are brand storytellers that strategically and methodically extract the differentiators of a brand and share that message with editors, tastemakers, and ultimately, consumers. We are hyper focused in the beauty and wellness space and it’s incredibly fulfilling because the space is filled with passionate, creative individuals. We are lucky to get to take someone’s passion and share it with the world through stories, events, and conversations. The challenge, however, comes from the saturation in the market and the need to evolve to stand out. My team is super nimble and impress me daily with their ideas for driving awareness for our clients.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

For me, success has always come from my willingness to make mistakes and learn. I can remember having a brainstorming session at my first PR job and being radio silent but later sharing my ideas with my manager which turned into a campaign that we later executed. She encouraged me to speak up more because all ideas, even if not THE idea, can spark.

Research, research, research–brands, ideas, people. Learning never stops and it can only make you a stronger asset. Be willing to put yourself out there and gain knowledge from your peers and also share your knowledge.

Lastly, determination. If you care about what you do, you WANT to do cool things and make an impact.

The advice that I always give my team and anyone breaking into PR is to network as much as possible, stay up-to-date on industry trends, and be nimble. This can be a really challenging career path but it’s also super fun.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

Hands down, my partner, Brittany Savastano. She challenges me often and that has forced me to level up OR slow down. I’m most certainly a stronger publicist, manager, and partner thanks to the support and push she’s given me over the years.
