We recently connected with Brittany Hoogenboom and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I spend a lot of time with myself, examining the stories that different parts of me are holding on to. I nurture the aspects of myself that feel lost, shame, guilt, and sadness, and provide them with the space to be heard, the care and compassion they need to let go, so that all parts of myself can work together and achieve wholeness. I remind myself to let go of people’s opinions of me because they have nothing to do with my identity. I pursue activities even in the presence of fear, pushing myself to experience new things, and I invest a lot of time in building myself up, especially after facing numerous life failures and making many mistakes.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I create a safe, sacred space and assist women in rediscovering wholeness within themselves. I support women during significant life transformations, guiding them as they explore their inner landscapes and delve deep into their psyches. I help women heal from trauma and revive their vitality while navigating their destinies and collaborating with God/Source and their spiritual teams to create a life that feels both supportive and fulfilling. I also assist women in connecting with the elements of nature and building their confidence, which ignites and enhances their spiritual gifts. I get to help them reclaim their identities and see themselves as the magnificent beings they are and that God/Source created them to be.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Faith is number one—faith in yourself, faith in God/Source, or whatever you choose to call the higher power. Emotional intelligence is essential for navigating life from a place that does not deter you from who you are; it involves the skill to observe rather than absorb. Many of us, including me, are still working on this because many of us were not provided the landscape to build this skill from childhood. Also, the ability to persevere, no matter how tough the road becomes. Take breaks, rest, but do not give up.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
I have various strategies for managing feelings of overwhelm. As someone with ADHD and PTSD, these feelings can occur at any moment. I sit with the part of myself that is feeling overwhelmed, ensuring it is heard and supported. I don’t suppress my emotions; instead, I pay attention to them and their messages without getting too attached. Often, what I need is rest. In a world that pushes for constant activity, I recognize that rest is both essential and productive. When I notice overwhelm creeping in after being active, it serves as a signal to pause and recharge. I utilize numerous breathwork techniques and bilateral input to soothe my nervous system, along with herbal remedies. As a rootworker, herbal medicine plays a significant role in my daily practices.
