We recently connected with Brittany Magnusson and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Brittany with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Hello — it is a pleasure to be here. Thank you for having me.
My work ethic is deeply rooted in the women who came before me and paved the way. I grew up watching my mother build something of her own, and my sister do the same. Entrepreneurship was modeled as an art form in itself; woven with courage, consistency, and self-trust. Being surrounded by women who worked for themselves showed me early on that showing up matters, not just through vision, but through execution. It’s also personal. I’ve always known myself as an artist and meant to create — but I equally understood that I had to work for it. I’ve learned to rely on myself, to move through uncertainty, and to keep going even when things aren’t easy or fully formed. My family has always embraced and strengthened my creativity, which made it feel natural, not forced, to devote myself to what I love, being floristry.
My work ethic comes from that foundation and from my own devotion. I work hard because this work is an extension of who I am, and I take responsibility for nurturing it, as it nurtures me. Flowers and nature take care of me, especially when I take care of them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My true love is flowers, which I am delighted to share through my brand, Flora Noir — a downtown Kansas City floral studio rooted in contemporary, lush floral artistry centered on mood, modern femininity, and sculptural forms. Each arrangement is approached as a visual composition. We offer everyday floral deliveries, ongoing subscriptions for private clients and businesses, custom floral styling for restaurants, hotels, and hospitality spaces, as well as floral direction for events, set design, and styled shoots in collaboration with brands, creatives, and spaces that value presence and intention.
Flora Noir also creates editorial mood edits throughout the city — temporary moments that blur the line between floral design, art, and experience. Beginning in 2026, we will expand into weddings, offering thoughtfully curated designs for couples drawn to a more elevated, expressive approach. Flora Noir aims to bring depth, elegance, and intention to Kansas City’s floral landscape.
In addition to floristry, my secondary love would be writing. I am a self-published poet using writing as another medium for emotional expression and story-telling. My work explores intimacy, femininity and self transformation. My second poetry book is forthcoming in 2026.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I cannot stress how important it is to expose yourself over and over once you have your vision and/or aspiration. Keep putting yourself out there, regardless of immediate results, because consistency always yields growth. Especially the kind that teaches you through experience. Partake in exposing yourself. Gain not only exposure but traction. Putting yourself in the spotlight and pushing your boundaries is essential for true development. There have been countless times I doubted myself or lacked the energy to forge ahead, yet consistently showing up for others and myself created momentum. This approach allows your aspirations to flourish across multiple avenues of growth rather than following one linear goal. It keeps your spark alive while building confidence and faith in yourself and your projects.
Equally important is keeping your heart and network open. I would be nowhere without my community, and it’s a privilege to remain part of it while serving through my passions. Creating a community organically has been, for me, the most important lesson. We need countless individuals to continue promoting individuality, inclusion, and meaningful collaboration.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
100% — we always need more art in the world. I am so open to collaborations and am excited to incorporate many more in the year ahead. I truly love working on projects, sharing ideas, and creating with others; it’s one of my favorite aspects of this whole endeavor. I’m especially eager to partner with artists across a variety of mediums, whether styling, filmmaking, set design, pop-ups, and/or other creative projects.
If you have a vision that could benefit from or include flowers, please don’t hesitate to reach out via the socials below. As a Kansas City native, I’m so proud of what our city is becoming, and any opportunity to spark and keep cultivating creativity, ambition, and beauty together would be incredible. I’m open to ideas and collaborations of all kinds and would love to connect with like-minded creators.
