Meet Brittany Mcclanton

We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Mcclanton recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi BRITTANY , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

Resilience, for me, is not just a trait—it is the thread that weaves together the fabric of my personal and professional life. It comes from a deep-rooted belief in the power of transformation and the understanding that every challenge carries the seed of growth.

At the heart of my resilience lies a commitment to connection. As a communications professional, I am inspired by the power of words to heal, empower, and unite. Knowing that my work can make a difference—bridging gaps, inspiring action, or fostering understanding—fuels my determination to keep going, even when the path ahead seems uncertain.

I also draw strength from the people around me—mentors, colleagues, friends, and family—whose support and belief in my abilities remind me that resilience is not a solo journey. It is a collective effort, built on trust, empathy, and shared purpose.

Ultimately, my resilience is anchored in hope—the unwavering belief that every setback is a setup for a comeback and that every story, no matter how difficult, has the potential for a meaningful and inspiring resolution.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

As a communications professional, I am driven by a profound passion for storytelling and a deep commitment to fostering authentic connections. I believe every individual, organization, and cause has a narrative that deserves to be heard—a story that has the power to inspire, inform, and create meaningful change. My role is to bring those stories to life, crafting messages that resonate and bridge the gap between intention and understanding.

My journey has been shaped by the unique challenges and triumphs of being an autism mom—a role that has taught me resilience, adaptability, and the art of truly listening. Navigating this path has instilled in me an unwavering determination to overcome obstacles, find creative solutions, and embrace every opportunity with a spirit of gratitude and purpose. These lessons now serve as the foundation of my professional ethos.

Returning to my career with renewed focus, I bring a perspective enriched by personal growth and a profound appreciation for the power of communication to connect people and ideas. I strive to create strategies and stories that not only elevate brands but also celebrate the human experiences at their core.

Every challenge I have faced has deepened my empathy and sharpened my ability to navigate complexity with grace and determination. These qualities, combined with my professional skills, allow me to approach my work with a unique blend of creativity, authenticity, and tenacity. As I embrace this new chapter, I am dedicated to making a meaningful impact—one story, one connection, one opportunity at a time.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

In my journey as a communications professional and an autism mom, three key skills have proven to be the most impactful: empathy-driven communication, resilience, and strategic storytelling. Empathy allows me to truly listen and understand diverse perspectives, enabling me to craft messages that resonate on a deeply human level. This skill has been invaluable in fostering authentic connections and building trust in both personal and professional relationships.

Resilience and adaptability, honed through navigating life’s challenges, empower me to remain composed under pressure, find creative solutions, and embrace change with confidence.

Finally, my passion for strategic storytelling has allowed me to shape narratives that align emotional and strategic goals—giving voice to meaningful experiences and driving impactful communication. Together, these skills form the foundation of my work and inspire me to make a difference in every story I tell.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

Public speaking has long been a challenge for me, presenting a unique opportunity for growth in both my personal and professional life. While the prospect of speaking in front of others once felt intimidating, I have come to view it as an essential skill worth developing. Embracing this weakness has allowed me to confront my fears, step out of my comfort zone, and build confidence with each experience.

Through intentional practice, constructive feedback, and a commitment to improvement, I have made significant strides in refining my communication style and delivery. I now see public speaking not just as a means of sharing ideas but as an opportunity to connect with audiences on a deeper level. This journey has taught me the power of preparation, the importance of authenticity, and the value of perseverance.

As I continue to strengthen this skill, I am motivated by the knowledge that every step forward not only enhances my professional capabilities but also reinforces my ability to inspire and engage others.
