We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brittany Myers a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
My journey towards finding my purpose has been an exploration of creativity, healing, and making a meaningful impact through the magical world of music and artistic expression. It all began with an uncontainable passion to create something entirely unique, that had never before been heard. The thrill of bringing something new into existence, coupled with the liberation and freedom it brought me, has been truly enlightening.
Amid personal struggles and challenges, I stumbled upon the extraordinary power of music to provide relief. No matter the hardship, when I immersed myself in creating music, everything else faded away. This realization was the spark that ignited my understanding of the role music would play in shaping my purpose.
Witnessing the positive impact my music had on others confirmed that I was on the right path. The joy and healing my creations has brought to people’s lives resonated deeply within me and affirmed the significance of my creative journey. It was a powerful reminder that my purpose was intricately tied to the impact I could make through my artistic endeavors.
However, my purpose isn’t confined solely to music; it extends to nurturing growth and well-being in others. Collaborations with nonprofit organizations I’ve worked with allowed me to guide young minds and cultivate creative communities. The satisfaction I felt in enabling others to explore their potential and providing them with opportunities solidified my belief in the broader scope of my purpose.
My company “Shadows and Sound”, co-created by myself and business partner Dr. Elizabeth Berrocal, emerged as a culmination of personal wellness and a genuine desire to merge music with mental and emotional wellness. The therapeutic nature of working with healing frequencies and vibrations became evident as I embarked on this endeavor. The positive response and success we received in our offerings validated my path and reinforced my purpose in facilitating healing experiences for myself and others.
Looking ahead, my purpose has evolved into a continuous journey of growth and impact. I envision my creativity expanding limitlessly, my music becoming a vessel for healing and positive well-being. By integrating healing practices into my musical creations, I aim to craft melodies that not only resonate with the senses but also touch hearts and souls in profound ways.
My journey towards discovering my purpose has been marked by a deep connection to creativity, a recognition of the healing power of music, and a genuine desire to impact lives positively. It’s a journey that continues to unfold, offering new insights and opportunities to make a meaningful mark on the world around me.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a DJ and music producer under the name Catwalk. I am known for crafting captivating electronic, house, and dance music that resonates with audiences worldwide, from all different backgrounds and all ages. Beyond my musical creations, I also work in the realm of sound healing via my company, Shadows and Sound, co-created by myself and Dr. Elizabeth Berrocal.
My passion extends beyond the music scene as I contribute actively to two impactful nonprofits based in San Antonio, TX. Serving on the board of The AM Project, I have played a vital role in shaping business development strategies, creating educational programs, and mentoring students in the art of deejaying and music production. This journey is deeply rewarding as I witness young minds embrace the world of sound and creativity.
I also work on the board of the Texas Fashion Industry Initiative, taking on the role of Fundraising Director, orchestrating events and avenues that drive growth and empower the fashion community across Texas. As a co-producer and Music Director of our biggest annual event, Texas Fashion Week, I help with all the music and sound needs for the runway events. I also work side-by-side with Executive Producer Saige Thomas and her team to create the state’s most reputable fashion week event.
Shadows and Sound, continues to thrive, offering immersive experiences that combine the power of sound, live DJing, and emotional/mental wellness practices. Our upcoming events, promising a fusion of healing and live performances, can be explored on our website, www.shadowsandsound.com. We will be releasing our debut electronic healing albums on 11/11/23.
I have also published a 30-day self-help, guided journal called High Vibe Journal. This journal was created for personal use and later decided to share it with the world. High Vibe helps users stay organized, raise their overall vibration, make their dreams turn into reality, and practice self-love. I great way to get into journaling and reach your goals! There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Anything you desire is obtainable, remember this while you are going through your unique journey. Stay focused on your desires! 2. Remember the importance of discipline. As creatives, we are often having to structure our workload based on our unique fields. Having clear goals, staying organized, and having a disciplined and consistent schedule for yourself is key to your growth and success!
3. You are capable of being the “dream” version of yourself. The world’s technology offers endless free education on all subjects. Do not be discouraged by monetary restraints. Equipment, tools and education can be expensive but it is free to start working towards your dream job. Start by doing research. Ask someone in your community if there are opportunities to shadow them or intern for them. Go out and ask! The worst response is “no” but what if it is “yes”? You’ll never know if you don’t ask.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
I recommend the book/course The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron for EVERYONE. If you are feeling at all lost or confused creatively, this book will unlock and unblock any mental walls you have up that have been holding you back . The Artist’s Way is a magical tool to dig deeper and unlock your amazing creative powers. Also, my own published journal, High Vibe Journal, has helped me stay organized daily and on track to reach my goals.
