We recently connected with Brittany Vermilyea and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Growing up, it was always reinforced to try everything until you land on something that you equally love and are good at. Throughout my life and career, I’ve always “followed my gut” and usually when I begin to feel insecure, I know I need to reevaluate my environment. Prior to starting Tini Bar, I had that gut feeling something wasn’t right: I was insecure about everything! So I reevaluated what I was good at and what I liked doing, and cocktail making came to mind. From my first event, private bartending came so naturally to me, and I truly feel the most confident behind my bar. Now, I have so much fun curating craft cocktails for events and my social media accounts, and sourcing unique and custom bar decor and supplies. Each time the party host looks at the bar for the first time and thanks me for the effort I put into their event, it gives me a boost of confidence and reassurance that I’m doing exactly what I’m meant to be doing. As I approach the 1-year anniversary of starting Tini Bar, the key to sustained confidence and success is truly in the preparation, and the behind the scenes work no one sees.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I have always been OBSESSED with cooking, cocktail making, hosting, and DIY-ing, so when I’m not behind my bar, I’m really enjoying the creative process of conceptualizing new recipes and sharing tips and tricks on social media. One thing I didn’t realize about starting a business in 2024 was how much of my organic business growth would be obtained through social media—which is a day job in and of itself! It’s also really exciting to get my brand out to new people and prospective clients and hopefully one day my offerings can expand outside of just event bartending. For now, I’m absolutely loving the journey and hope to begin the new year offering additional martini bar options.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Networking, exceptional customer service and meticulous attention to detail are the cornerstones of building a successful small business. Networking opens doors to opportunities, partnerships and community connections that can elevate your business beyond what you can achieve alone. Outstanding customer service creates loyal clients who become your brand ambassadors, spreading the word and referring your services to their friends, family and coworkers. Finally, attention to detail ensures that every aspect of your business, from the services you offer to the experiences you create, is polished and professional. Together, these elements form the foundation for sustainable growth and a reputation that stands out in any industry.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Starting Tini Bar last January has been life-changing. Over the past 12 months, I’ve grown so much, not just as a business owner, but as a person. I’ve gained a confidence I never knew I had—whether it’s making big decisions, connecting with others, or handling challenges head-on. It’s incredible how building something from the ground up can transform the way you see yourself and your potential. This journey has given me the courage to dream even bigger, and I’m so excited for what’s ahead in the new year!
