Meet Brittany Wuthrich

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brittany Wuthrich. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brittany below.

Hi Brittany , thank you for joining us today and sharing your experiences and acquired wisdom with us. Burnout is a huge topic these days and so we’d love to kick things off by discussing your thoughts on overcoming or avoiding burnout

I avoid burnout by finding things in my areas of interest that challenge me. For example, as I’m always working towards growing my skillset as an illustrator for picture books, I am also working to learn character design to produce animated shorts. I do this because it helps me grow as an artist. If I start to feel burnout creeping up, I’ll switch to something else on my to-do list. If I don’t feel like drawing, I’ll have a good writing session with some music I enjoy to listen to.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am an author and illustrator from Nashville, TN. I have a background in video production, media, and audio/visual technology. I grew up loving art, music, and storytelling — so I try to incorporate those things in what I do. Through crowdfunding, I self-published my first children’s picture book in 2021, titled Bird and The Tree. With this book, I had the help of an Atlanta based illustrator, Rebecca Scott. Working with her inspired me to pursue my own goals to be an illustrator.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that have been helpful for me to hone in on would be a willingness to always be learning something new and grow, the ability to listen and lead, and to set measurable goals for myself.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

There are a few. For me, the number one book that has impacted my life is the Bible. From being scared of the dark when I was little, to navigating my purpose in life, opening God’s word has never failed to shine a light in my path. Next, when it comes to art and illustration, I’m enjoying a book called “The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation” by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston. It goes in depth with principles of Animation and the stories of early Disney movies.
