We were lucky to catch up with Brittnai Walton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittnai, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?
My self-discipline directly responds to a need for change in my life, I was craving stability. I found a freedom in putting my head down and doing the work. Focusing on a routine that worked for me organically created a need for discipline to maintain that routine.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
First and foremost I am a wife and mother who thrives most when I am working and creating, which explains my 3 businesses. I am a YouTube Creator, and my YouTube channel, BrittReacts has over 210,000 subscribers and counting. I pride myself in the discipline it took to create that following in one year. I also own and operate my own Interior Decor Business, BPW Creative Collections. A hobby turned business, I love the ability to create beautiful spaces, travel to clients, and use my love of visual art to provide another stream of income. Lastly, I have an LLC dedicated to my and my daughter’s modeling and acting career. Being able to work with my 9-year-old on set, and teach her financial responsibility and the value of hard work and discipline feels like a huge part of my purpose.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back I’d say, pushing through hard seasons, being a professional dancer (performing and teaching dance), as well as being a talent agent all gave me skills to thrive in my life today as an entrepreneur. Having to push through really hard situations and still show up and perform my entire life has given me the tools to get through anything in business and to remain level-headed. As a dance teacher of ages 18 months to 23 years, I learned patience and preparation. As a Director in my final 9-5 (really round the clock lol) job, I learned to create something from nothing, how to direct and assist others, and how to remain true to myself and my gut instincts.
My advice to those in the early stages, trust yourself and your journey. Know that every single experience is an opportunity to prepare for what’s to come.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
We welcomed our new addition last October. Having to balance life and work with a newborn has proven to be a challenge in the new year. Remembering to give myself grace while also holding onto my goals and dreams has been a tricky game but I am excited for the challenge and I know that ultimately I will feel so rewarded knowing I did it all with the discipline I know to lean on and into.
