Meet Brittney Luckett

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brittney Luckett. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brittney below.

Brittney, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My resilience came from learning from past experiences and my ability to adapt to change and how I was able to strategically get through adversities. Even at this age, I’m still learning but the key is being mentally flexible, keeping positive emotions and staying connected to those who genuinely support you during these times.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a freelance graphic designer and crafter from Canton, Mississippi. I initially started out creating and making custom t-shirts but alongside that creating graphics was another hobby I grew to love. After a while, I started to create content for students on campus and it was a lucrative side gig. Honestly, in college I never considered graphic design as a profession until after I graduated. I don’t know it was weird… and the more I created the more I wanted to do it. Even after graduating and discovering my passion for graphic design I still pushed my desire to the side and got a regular job because that was the traditional thing to do after college right?. I was making great money but I wasn’t happy so in 2019 I decided to quit my job. At the time I had no plan, a little money but I knew I had to make it work. I took a chance being a small town girl with a dream & I started Studio One Nineteen and I haven’t looked back since. Currently my focus is growth, expansion and perfecting my craft. Recently I’ve made some investments that will take my business to the next level but I don’t want to speak prematurely. I will say be on the lookout because I have a lot of big things in store for Studio One Nineteen.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back I think the top three qualities that were the most impactful for me were consistency, the ability to research and learn things on my own & challenges from my customers. The consistency not only helped the customers to see me but they literally watched me grow. My ability to challenge myself to learn new skill sets to create more appealing designs also impressed potential consumers and the design challenges helped me to overcome my fear and helped me to reach heights I never imagined. My best advice to anyone pursuing a dream is don’t think about it JUST DO IT. Also, start with structure and stay consistent; everything else will come with time.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful things my parents have ever done for me was to support me and when I say support I mean mentally, emotionally and financially. After graduating from college and realizing that Graphic Design was what I wanted to do, on my birthdays I didn’t want regular gifts or shopping money instead I asked for computers, machines and investment money and they did just that. My mom still does and my dad left this world making sure that I had everything I needed. So for that I’m forever grateful and I’m forever indebted to my parents for their continuous support.
