We were lucky to catch up with Brittni Lawrence recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brittni , sincerely appreciate your selflessness in agreeing to discuss your mental health journey and how you overcame and persisted despite the challenges. Please share with our readers how you overcame. For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
Entrepreneurship is not easy. It is especially strenuous when you struggle with mental health issues. I personally struggle with symptoms related to ADD. This includes forgetfulness, lack of concentration, anxiety, boredom, depression, etc.
Operating a business while balancing life and mental health can be draining. I’ve found that being overly prepared has helped me combat many problems before they arise. I use Planbella to help me keep organized with all of my events, and the Square app helps me keep track of all of my sales and clients’ information.
Understanding that there must be a balance between business and personal time has led to a decrease in burnout. It helps that painting is therapeutic for me. I use face painting as my outlet. Seeing people smile with joy or compliment my work is very gratifying.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Since I was very young I always had a love for art. Face Painting Brittni has become my way of sharing my art with the world. The many obstacles I’ve overcome on my entrepreneurial journey have molded me into the woman I am today.
It’s important to me that I make each client feel special when they sit in my chair to get their face painted. Through practice and persistence I’ve had the opportunity to be recognized by many influential persons in my industry. A goal I accomplished most recently was teaching my first class on FABA TV and being recognized as an International Face Paint Instructor.
The overwhelming support I’ve received has encouraged me to host my very first in-person face painting class, July 9th, 2023 in Tampa, Florida.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My biggest lesson learned is to start and stay consistent. Looking back, my willingness to do something before I felt “ready” opened many doors for my business. I often agreed to things that felt intimidating or scary at first, but they revealed my full potential.
To beginners just starting their journey, practice yields progress. There are many free and inexpensive resources available to artists. There are classes/tutorials on Youtube, Instagram, FABA TV, Facebook and more. Feel free to contact Face Painting Brittni with any questions or concerns you may have also. We are always here to help.
Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
What has worked for me personally is focusing on having a strong foundation. Practicing the fundamentals of face painting; line-work, brush strokes, focal points, color theory, etc. Gaining a better understanding of all of the small components of a design has improved my work overall.
I started by refining my rose designs. Roses are perfect for children and adults, the endless color combinations make it a hit at most events. With a solid foundation and a few crowd pleasing designs I’m able to explore other designs and improve on them. I now have my own original style of face painting that I can implement on any design.
