Meet Brittny Button

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brittny Button. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brittny below.

Brittny , so great to have you sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our readers and so let’s jump right into one of our favorite topics – empathy. We think a lack of empathy is at the heart of so many issues the world is struggling with and so our hope is to contribute to an environment that fosters the development of empathy. Along those lines, we’d love to hear your thoughts around where your empathy comes from?

I think empathy has always been at the heart of who I am, and it’s one of the strongest values I try to live by and teach my children. For me, empathy isn’t just a trait—it’s a daily practice. If we don’t have empathy, what do we really have? It’s the foundation for how we connect with others and build real, meaningful relationships.

One of the biggest influences on my empathy was my grandmother. She was the most empathetic person I’ve ever met in my life. She may not have had much to give in a material sense, but she had an abundance of love, compassion, and understanding—and that was everything. Watching the way she treated others, how she made people feel seen and cared for, really shaped me. It was inspiring to witness how powerful empathy could be, especially when it came from someone with such a big heart.

Growing up, I saw how a lack of kindness could hurt, and how empathy could heal. And today, I think it’s something that’s becoming increasingly rare. With everyone glued to technology, it’s easy to become numb or disconnected. But I believe in slowing down, smiling at a stranger, being patient with a child, showing grace to someone who might be struggling—even when we don’t know their story.

Of course, there are times when you need to stand up for yourself, but even then, I try to come from a place of understanding. Because you never truly know what someone else is going through, and sometimes, just a small moment of empathy can change someone’s entire day—or their life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Hi there! I’m Brittny Button, founder and principal designer of Button Atelier www.buttonatelier.com. It’s an interior design firm based in LA! We’re launching my furniture collection in the Fall.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Trusting my expertise and instincts, 2. Having the confidence and timing to execute with purpose, 3. Ask and learn as much as you can, it will help you decipher if you’re in the right industry. Too often, I see that people ‘think’ they already know too much 😉

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

Helped me to establish a strong work ethic —especially my mom, but also my dad. They both set such a strong example for me growing up. My mom owned a hair salon and my dad was a California Highway Patrol officer, but outside of their full-time jobs, they never hired anyone to do work around the house. They handled everything themselves—fixing things, building things, even working on cars. I remember mowing the lawn and cleaning the house as a kid, and honestly, I enjoyed having that responsibility.

Watching them juggle careers, kids, and everyday life really taught me that if you’re willing to work hard, you can create the life you dream of. But it takes consistency, commitment, and the mindset to never give up. That’s what I carry with me in everything I do.
