We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brock And Boston Mikesell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brock and Boston below.
Brock and Boston , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
We both get our work ethic from our parents. They are both business owners and have show us how to work hard and not stop on achieving your dreams.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
We started our social media business back in 2016 when we were in 6th grade. It makes me laugh because we started making YouTube videos by filming off our phones and editing them all by ourself. We ran the whole channel by ourselves from filming to editing to posting, we did it all.
We were consistent for two years until we had any major growth. In 2018 we did a collaboration with our good friends, The LeRoy’s. They helped us hit 10k subscribers and since then we were able to keep growing.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
A few skills we learned was to, #1 be paitent. There were so many days when we would be posting a vlog and it didn’t do as good as our other ones. That led us to feel upset and just stuck. Instead of just deleting them, we just were able to figure out what people were actually interested in watching.
#2 We learned how to edit and work with brands. We didn’t have any help from our parents, it was all ran by us. We were the ones editing the videos and negotiating deals with brands. This really taught us more of the business side of things and how to create a good contract with someone incase something goes wrong.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
Our parents were super busy with their own jobs when we started our social media journey. One thing I’m so grateful for was that they let us start it all up and let us just do our thing!
A lot of the times when other people start their own channels they usually have a parent or manger help them, which can be a really smart and good thing to do. But when we started our channel our parents didn’t help us. We both are actually so grateful for that because we were able to learn and navigate it on our own. It makes me look back and to see that when we were 12-14 years-old, that we learned so much and gained so much knowledge. I’m really proud of both of us for getting the ball rolling!
