Meet Brody Burke

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brody Burke. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brody below.

Brody, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I would say I get my resilience form my mother. She is one of the strongest people I know. She took a job as a waitress when she was going to college. When she had my sister and me, she kept working there (giving up school) because she wanted to be there for us as a mother. She made sacrifice after sacrifice, never expecting a thank you. Early on in my life (before I can really even remember) she got diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (M.S.). Over the years her mobility has declined (especially within these past few years). It is difficult to see her struggle, but she is resilient: insisting to do all she can on her own. She’s a fighter and has passed that fighting spirit onto me – a fact that I am very grateful for.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My stage name is Hollow Profit. I make Hip-Hop music; mostly the lyric and performance portion (although I have contributed to my share of the production side of things. For me the most exciting part is the writing process. I like getting an instrumental, sitting down with a pen and a pad, and letting the muse take hold. I rarely go into making a song, having plan. I find the best art is a journey, one in which the artist is unsure of end result until they happen upon it. I recently (10/18/2024) released a 17 track album titled “QUIBONO?”. The process of viewing art as a journey was the method in which I employed to write a great deal of these songs. QUIBONO? is available on all a major streaming services (Spotify, Apple, YT and the like).

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Consistency is key. You can have a lot of raw talent to start with but it is useless if you don’t take the time to form it. When I was in High School up until I got married to the love of my life (Theresa), I would write 2 to 4 hours a day on average (excluding Sundays); that type of consistency is what lead to my ability to rap proficiently.

Grit is also important, If you want to be successful at something you need to build the mental grit necessary to overcome undesirable processes. There’s a lot of thing I do not enjoy doing in regards to the business side of music. I don’t like posting on social media but I know It is an integral part to music promotion these days. I don’t enjoy emailing curators and typing up answers to interview questions but here I am non the less. Grit is important not just in business but in life, we all face difficult obstacles and grit makes it possible to overcome them.

Faith has been instrumental – It is the foundation on which my life is built upon. As a Christian, I have faith that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I can overcome any of the hardships that life will throw at me, I’m not alone on this journey and this life is not all that I have.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I’m always on the look out for new talent. I really enjoy working with top tier lyricists as they push me to write better verses. If you are interest in collaborating with me you can reach me by email: 24hollow@gmail.com or on Instagram @hollowprofit.
