Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brody Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Brody , appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?
I had a lot of discipline instilled at an early age. My (Vietnam) veteran father and (Korean War) veteran grandfather were blue collar, hardworking men. I was taught that you need to work hard for the things you want in life. To not ask for handouts or things the easy way. To be honest and carry yourself with integrity, always. I don’t like leaving things unfinished and I never quit. That’s when you really lose. Failure is just a stepping stone to the next success and you have to always look at those moments like that. It keeps you going and keeps you focused on what to do better the next go around. I know that no one is coming to save me and it’s up to me to build the life I want.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am the owner/founder of a mens grooming company, Backwoods Beard Co. that I started in 2015. I spent a lot of time networking with athletes and tv personalities prior to even launching the company publicly. It allowed me to build an audience for my brand through the trusted approval of those individuals. I’ve had the pleasure of sending products to Antonio Gibson of the Washington Commanders, Dave Canterbury from Discovery Channel’s Dual Survival, Tom Oar from History Channel’s Mountain Men, actor Nick Offerman, Professional Wrestler James Storm, and countless others who I truly appreciate. I continuously try to add value to the community we’ve built, whether that’s with our quality products or giving someone the motivation to capture their moment with confidence and class.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Continuous learning. Being a forever student. Never wanting to be the smartest in the room, so that there’s always something to learn from someone or something. Being able to problem solve and pivot to new ideas when one may not work out. Communicating clearly to yourself what it is you’re wanting and dedicating yourself to the hours you’ll invest. Also not sacrificing your values for profit. It goes back to the integrity aspect that I carry at my core. Take chances, bet on yourself, more importantly show up for yourself, and approach failure as something positive because that means you’re doing and doing is the hardest part.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
They let me be me. There was discipline and rules and values, but at my core they never told me I couldn’t be something. That whatever it is I wanted, to always work hard to accomplish that. They let me dream and had trust in me to do the right thing always. I’m grateful for them.
