Meet Brooke Anderson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brooke Anderson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Brooke, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

This was something I struggled with so much in the beginning, really only half way through 2025 did I stop dealing with it. In my head people were calling me a fake, wondering why I was assuming my products would be any better/work any better than other goat milk products, etc. I really only stopped believing it when I started making a decent profit. I was getting messages from so many people, even dermatologists that my customers were sending my way, did I overcome it. I realized my products are as good as I think they are. They were helping people. People loved them and praised them. My customers are my best cheerleaders.

I research each ingredient, each product, each idea for so long before I ever offer them. They’re all products you can find in the store but mine are less ingredients and frankly at the possibility of sounding like I’m bragging, they’re better too. I know they’re better and I know my marketing ideas work because I often see other small businesses using the ideas and trying to remake the products. This was so incredibly frustrating to me at first that I put so much time and effort into everything I do and for a handful of people to swoop in and take my words basically as their own was hard to see. However I know my customers see my hard work and know it’s mine. Some would say I should be flattered by seeing someone try to copy me, and I can see how people who aren’t small business owners would think that but when you’re the one doing the work, staying up late, putting your heart and soul into it.. it’s more frustrating and makes you angry to see someone claim your words and product ideas as theirs. This was another situation though that helped me overcome imposter syndrome. If people are copying you.. it’s frustrating, but know you’re succeeding.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I live on a small homestead in Southern IL where I own a herd of mini goats, right now that consists of Nigerian Dwarves, Mini Lamanchas, and Mini Nubians. When these girls are in milk from March – October I hand milk them every day, twice a day. I use their milk to create a very wide variety of skin and body care products all made with the milk from these goats. I also freeze the milk so I have enough over winter time to complete orders.

When people hear about my business they assume I do the typical goat milk soap and goat milk lotion but I offer so much. I have a face care line, wellness product line, hair care line, and so much more. I have around 50 products I make and sell. Most recently I just released my Postpartum Line – for mom and baby!

My goal is offering clean and safe skincare for all ages while being as affordable as possible. Affordability looks different for everyone and I try to keep that in mind when pricing my products.

I offer monthly boxes where you can get a set amount of products that are offered in the box for a cheaper price. You can subscribe monthly or for the year! People love this option as some of them you can customize so you get to try several things at a great price.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I think the biggest thing is not being afraid to put yourself out there. You’ve got to promote. Don’t be afraid to run sales. Don’t be afraid to offer freebies. The best way to grow your customer base is by doing these things. If you’re blessed enough to get a good customer base they will start sending people your way.

It can be uncomfortable promoting yourself. I did it on several forms of social media and even 2 years in still get nervous doing it but, it’s what has helped me grow the most and where a good amount of my following came from.

Also find a way to stick out more than others who are doing the same business as you. Of course we all want to succeed.. but ultimately you need to stand out if you want to get the customer base. For me where I stand out is offering more than the basic goat milk skincare products that are generally offered. I took it so much farther. And some of those “off the wall” products are my absolute best sellers!

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

My two daughters. The way my oldest grins with so much pride when she tells people what I do for a living keeps me going. She often says she wants to be just like me when she grows up and wants to make goat milk skincare products too. My youngest tries to help with the making and packaging of products but I can be slightly OCD about it, but just her encouragement and excitement over it makes me so happy.

I want my daughters to grow up knowing they can do jobs that don’t seem so normal, something that makes them happy, and succeed. I want them to see the hard work and dedication I put into this business and hope they get the same drive to put their heart into whatever they choose to as they grow up.

My daughters absolutely keep me going. They’re my biggest and favorite cheerleaders.
