We recently connected with Brooke Miles and have shared our conversation below.
Brooke, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I got it from my parents. They had me when they were 21 years old and had little money. My mom had to drop out of college, and at that point, my dad hadn’t gone to college. But I saw them, from an early age, pick up the pieces and build their careers. My dad started as a taxi driver, then became a Philadelphia police officer, then became a detective, and finally became an attorney (earning his Bachelor’s degree and law degree while working the whole time). My mom went back to college, got her degree, and became an elementary school teacher.
Keep in mind that they did all this before I was 10 years old. So from a very young age, I watched my parents work hard and achieve their goals.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a LinkedIn strategist, consultant, and trainer. What makes me different is that:
(1) I incorporate humor and personality into my branding. You can especially see this in my YouTube channel, where I educate business owners and marketers about LinkedIn. https://www.youtube.com/@DelawareShoutOut/videos
(2) My strategies factor in work-life balance. I don’t recommend anything to clients that would be overly stressful or get in the way of enjoying life. Yes, LinkedIn can help you earn lots more money, but what good is it if you’re miserable in the process? Note that my husband and I have 6 children, and we’re homeschooling our youngest son. Between homeschooling, my YouTube channel, and serving my LinkedIn clients, I have little time, and I imagine my clients have little time, too!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
(1) I have a “no Plan B” strategy. I assume I have to make Plan A work, because there’s no Plan B. A Plan B would just give myself permission to not work Plan A to the best of my abilities.
(2) I’m willing to be vulnerable (an amount that’s appropriate). If you act like everything is perfect, most people will see through that and not trust you.
(3) I’m reading every day (Mon-Fri) about my industry so I can stay on top of trends and do a better job helping my clients.
In addition to doing the things above, I recommend aiming for 1% improvements. Every day, try to do 1% better than the day before. You’ll be amazed how much better you’ll be at the end of the year!

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
They told me I could do anything I set my mind to. They believed in me, and that’s helped me believe in myself. I recommend that if you’re a parent, do your best to boost your child’s self-confidence.
