Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brooke Sellers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brooke, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I think the simplest way to find your purpose is to think about what fills your cup and makes you feel good about yourself. What would you be willing to do for free? For me, that was teaching people how to build muscle as a vegan. I am so passionate about saving the planet, animals, and health of our species, that I was excited to show people that you can be healthy and strong as a vegan. Every person I help, helps hundreds of animals. So I believe my purpose here is to continue to give back to the Earth and its inhabitants by educating people on how to live more ethical and sustainable lives.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have been coaching vegans for almost 5 years now, and I help people all over the world achieve their physique and health goals on a completely plant based diet. I have worked with over 500 people to create a more compassionate and ethical way of life for themselves while getting in amazing shape. I’m also a competitive bodybuilder, and will hopefully be competing again sometime this year. My goal is to achieve my IFBB pro card in bodybuilding and represent vegans in this sport.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
First would be the ability to take risks. As they say, risk is better than regret, and the most growth comes from outside our comfort zones. Second would be discipline. Doing what needs to be done even when you don’t feel like doing it. The most successful people in the world have unwavering self discipline. One of my favorite quotes is “discipline equals freedom.” Third would be resilience. You have to be able to get up after you’ve been knocked down or you will have a long road ahead of you. There will always be obstacles, but you can’t let those obstacles in the road end the whole journey. It’s a choice. We all have the choice to let something break us or rise above it and grow from it.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
There are so many times I feel overwhelmed with everything I have going on, but centering myself and grounding myself helps me. Here’s a few ways I do that. Journaling my thoughts has been a real game changer. Most of the time we overwhelm ourselves by our thought processes, and when you write it out on paper, it’s not as daunting. It seems like a lot and like a big mess when it’s all scrambled up inside your head. Journal how you are feeling, and then make yourself a to do list. Breathwork has also been huge for me. Even 5 minutes daily will make a huge difference because this is directly tapping into your nervous system and forcing you to calm down. It’s a great way to be present, and just focus on the moment. Most of the time we are overwhelmed because we are thinking about the future. From a more objective view, I would recommend hiring help or outsourcing work if you can. If you have a part of your business or process that is stressing you out, find a way to take that off your plate so you can use your energy in other areas. You can find so many great contractors online. It’s so easy to outsource work now!
