We were lucky to catch up with Brooke recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke, so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
I live by the phrase: You miss every shot you don’t take. That mindset didn’t come naturally though. It developed as I realized that if I don’t put myself out there, someone else will grasp the opportunities. There are so many talented, qualified designers ready to seize the opportunities I hesitate on. So if I want a shot, I have to show up for it.
Rejection is part of the process too. But I’ve found peace in knowing that if I give something my all, then it’s still a win, no matter the outcome. I can be at peace with simply knowing I took my shot and gave it the best I could. If it doesn’t work out, it wasn’t right for me anyway. Shifting my perspective to see risk as necessary and rejection as part of growth has helped me become more comfortable taking chances.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I run a creative agency that specializes in branding and website design for entrepreneurs, influencers, and emerging product-based businesses. I started it from a desire to create thoughtful, elevated design that not only looks beautiful but also tells a clear story and helps people connect with their audience in a more intentional way.
What feels most special about the work is how personal it is…every brand we build is rooted in someone’s vision, their passion, their “why.” I love being part of that early stage, shaping the look and feel of something from the ground up and watching it evolve into a full experience. I’m especially passionate about custom web design and creating digital spaces that feel unique, aligned, and true to the brand behind them.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I’d say the three biggest things that shaped my journey were clarity, consistency, and intuition.
Clarity in knowing what I stand for and what kind of work I want to be doing. That took time and a lot of trial and error, but it’s made decision-making so much easier.
Consistency in showing up, even when things felt slow or uncertain. I kept creating, kept refining, and kept putting myself out there, and that built trust over time.
And intuition. I’ve always had a strong gut feeling about what’s right for me creatively and who I want to work with. Learning to listen to that and not second-guess it has made all the difference.
For anyone starting out, I’d say don’t rush it. Stay curious, try different things, and give yourself time to figure out what feels right. The clarity and intuition will come. You just have to keep moving and trust that it’s all part of it.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?
I’m a big believer in going all in on your strengths. Of course, it’s helpful to be aware of your weaknesses, but I don’t think trying to be good at everything is the best use of your time or energy, especially as a business owner. The sooner I started leaning into what I’m naturally good at and getting support in the areas that drain me, the faster things started to grow.
For example, I’ve always been strong on the creative and strategy side, but operations used to slow me down. At first, I tried to do it all: project management, admin, everything – and it led to burnout. Once I brought on help and gave myself space to stay in my zone of genius, I was not only more productive, but way more fulfilled. Things started running smoother, clients had a better experience, and I had the energy to keep building.
So I’d say know your strengths, get really good at them, and build support around the rest. It’s not about ignoring your weak spots entirely, but about being intentional with where your time is going.
