We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brother Dusty. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brother Dusty below.
Hi Brother Dusty, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?
I’ve never met a hater/naysayer that wasn’t a complete loser projecting their own failures onto others. Their words carry no weight because if I listen to them I’ll end up like them. No one wants that. Winners lift people up – or they’re too busy to comment on what others are doing. Everyone I know who hates on others is miserable.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I twist genres and carve my own path in the music world by strictly doing what I love without trying to fit a niche or playlist, I honor my influences without trying to copy any other artist.
My shows exhibit my arsenal of vocals, bass, drums, guitar and various percussion while leading a band of string, brass, percussion and electronic musicians.
I maintain my own musical style while branching into rock n roll sounds, hip hop grooves, blues/folk songs, some jazz elements and funky punk delivery.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I got my discipline and education from high school drumline at a school that broke the record for how many State Championships could be won by one school.
I’ve played in or with around 40 different bands and ensembles.
My dad is a bassist and raised me around music. My whole family is either church musicians or preachers.
Advice: learn from everything around you and never let your pride prevent growth.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
There is an ancient Egyptian teaching in “Hermetics” that states in order for object A to move object B, object A must carry more force than B.
This is the formula for overcoming all obstacles and achieving any goals or changes in life.
