Meet Bryan “Ace” Torres

We recently connected with Bryan “Ace” Torres and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Bryan “Ace”, great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.
Growing up, I had to learn that life was all about risks. Whether you’re reaching for a certain goal, trying to ask out your crush, or trying to get into a new work/creative space. It’s all risky. I knew that in order to get to where I want to be, I would have to make very tough life decisions and choices. Once you learn that you will have to risk and sacrifice certain things to get what you want out of life, it becomes somewhat easier. Because then you understand that it’s part of the process. You need to give up certain things to receive life changing results. Developing the ability to make risky decisions was a challenge that I wasn’t able to overcome at first. We get so attached to certain people, ideas, and places, that we struggle to let go, even when you know it’s necessary to reach your end goal. Something’s need to be put at risk if you ever want to become who you want to be.

Late 2020, I began a path that I knew would require a lot of sacrifices. I’ve almost risked it all. I gave up so much to reach the point that I’m at today. I’m not where I want to be, but I’m right where I need to be. I’ve grown and learned a lot throughout my journey, enough to know that I still have far more risks to take, to get what I deserve

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
For the past 3 years, I’ve been focusing on getting my acting career going. My biggest challenge that I had to overcome throughout my journey was getting signed to an acting agency. There is so much competition in this entertainment business, especially in LA. Competing against some of the top actors was a very difficult challenge to overcome but discipline and consistency helped me.

Acting to me is a very beautiful form of art. Being able to bring characters to life and portray them through your own experiences and perspective is very fascinating. Acting is something that I’m very passionate about and something that gives me purpose. Being able to bring entertaining performances is something that I want to do in life, and to tell stories through the art of acting.

I’m currently working on this personal project of mine. A screenplay that I’ve been building and working on for the past 3 years. I love everything about this industry, from the acting side of it, screenwriting, or the directing side of it, it still leads to the same outcome. Telling a detailed story through amazing performances and writing. I’m planning on getting this screenplay done as soon as possible to try to push it out and see how far I can take this story of mine.

I started modeling which is something I’ve always thought about doing but never really got the chance to take it more serious, until last year. I went to LA fashion week as a viewer last year to see my friend walk the runway, when I was approached by a modeling coach and asked me if I ever modeled before. I said “no I haven’t, but would love to get more into it.” He then told me “how would you like to walk the runway today for fun?”. And I immediately said yes. Knowing that I’ve never done any modeling training or coaching or had any idea how to properly walk the runway, I still took the offer. You will always have opportunities presented to you. Even if you’re not sure if you can do it, take the risk and go for it. Good things can happen, you just have to take the risk.

I’m currently waiting for my second LA fashion week show that I’ll be modeling for later this year, and have some upcoming acting projects that I’m excited for. This year is a year of opportunity and a year to make things happen. That’s the goal.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
One of the best skills I worked on that was very impactful in my journey was my speech. Learning to communicate coherently and appropriately with different coaches, agents, managers, and other creative people definitely helped me become more interesting and admired.

Learning this skill also helped me with my other skill that I had to learn, which works hand in hand, which is reading and performing auditions and scripts. It added to my performances, knowing how to articulate, speak, and project different tones helped me bring my performances to life.

Acting was definitely hard at first and had its challenges. But this was something that I learned to get better at as time went on. I did multiple classes, spoke to different actors to see their perspective and views, and also watched and analyzed movies. Doing these three things helped my acting get better and helped me become a more confident performer. It’s been a wild journey with many ups and downs but I’m glad to be where I’m at today. Perfecting my craft is something that I love diving into everyday to make me the best possible version of myself and actor that I possibly can!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would love to connect with other creatives such as actors, screenwriters, directors, and almost everyone who’s involved in this industry. I love talking to actors who have their own ways and methods to do their work, I find it fascinating and often learn from them. That’s something that can be beneficial for not only myself, but for them as well!

I love talking about the process and the steps it takes to make a story come to life. Connecting with directors and other actors who would want to produce a short film together is something I’ve always wanted to get more into. I’ve met a couple directors and actors who I’ve partnered with to create a short film and other creative reels which was a lot of fun. Finding and connecting with people in this space is always an interesting and exciting journey that I’m always ready for.

I would also like to talk with screenwriters, since I’m working on my own project myself! Would like to see their point of views and their ways of writing that works for them. Bouncing off ideas from one another and creating a genuine story is what I want to accomplish. Anyone in the entertainment industry, especially the film and television world, are the kinds of people I love to connect with and get to learn from.
