Meet Bryan Bishop

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bryan Bishop. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bryan below.

Bryan, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?

When I was diagnosed with brain cancer at age 30, so many incredible people came to my aid. It left a lasting impression on me as to the inherent generosity of people. It also left me with an unplayable spiritual debt that I’m constantly trying to repay, so whenever I’m provided with an opportunity to give back, I take it.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I created and currently host The Film Vault, a movie podcast that debuted at #1 on the iTunes Podcast charts in 2010. My New York Times Bestselling memoir, “Shrinkage: Manhood, Marriage and the Tumor that Tried to Kill Me,” was published in 2014. My Instagram-verified account is @BaldBryan. Currently, I am editing a feature-length documentary about comedy and Young Adult Cancer.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Resilience, positivity and humor

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

By far, Christie, my wife. When I was diagnosed and given just six months to live, we were engaged and just two months away from our wedding. Her support – physically, emotionally and in every other way – has literally saved my life.
