Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bryan Maradas Cooke. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Bryan, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Through failure
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
GRK is a collective of young content creators who strive to live a righteous life & make the world a better place through art & vision despite their environment.
My goal was to document the journey from urban, to a high end lifestyle. I started making music after high school to stay out of trouble. The energy affiliated to the music we listen to tends to be negative. I’m here to change the narrative & inspire the world while doing it. I put a lot of effort into pushing out positivity while still retaining the fun, youthful & banging sounds popular in hip hop & rap.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I started off as an engineer, I believe this is my strongest tool in my arsenal. The ability & the knowledge to shape what Ive envisioned in my mind is my strongest quality. I also challenge myself to make songs in French which is starting to mold a new sound for me & last but not least, being able to freestyle makes it super efficient for me to dish out as many tracks as possible in a session
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
GRK my collective has been the most influential to my music career. I have around me a group of young dedicated artists that keep me motivated everyday. Mainly my producer “Winterfresh” who’s been there making beats for me every step of the way.
I listened to a lot of dancehall growing up: Buju, Vybz, elephant man. Nowadays, I more so influenced by afrobeats, artists such as wizkid, burnaboy, remain, etc… But when its all said & done, Micheal Jackson was my biggest inspiration growing up.
