Meet Bryan Perez

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bryan Perez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Bryan, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I’ll probably get it from both my parents. My dad was in the army so they kinda built that into him and he built that into me.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My name is Bryan “Bubba” Perez and I’m a filmmaker! I’m currently attending the New York film academy of Los Angeles where I’m studying filmmaking, shocking I know. I’ve been wanting to be a filmmaker since I was 9 years old after the passing of biological mom, you see it was extremely hard on me and still is to some extent but the thing that helped me deal with the passing was film. It was an escape for me and from there I wanted to make stuff to help people escape as well so I made it my goal to be a filmmaker. Now as an adult I still want to help others escape their problems with films but I feel like I’m doing it more so for me now rather then for others. Essentially it’s a form of therapy for me.
What I do is mainly direct and write my own films with some help through a partner of mine when it comes to the writing process.
What I find the most exciting thing about filmmaking is creating something that you know that is going to give a reaction. I love playing with audiences emotions so when I I have something that I know is going to give off a feeling to the audience be it uncomfortable or sad it just makes me filled with joy.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I would say my determination, being collaborative, and passion.
Surround yourself with people who love film as much as you do because it’s going to make you want to be as knowledgeable as the person or more than that person.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

Believe in me. My dad & step mom have always been supportive of me and this journey that I’m on and I’m extremely fortunate to have that because some people don’t have such a supportive family.
