Meet Bryce Cylar

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bryce Cylar. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Bryce with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I get my work ethic from my childhood and being an athlete. Growing up I had a lot of positive hardworking role models. My mom being one of them. So the best example was right in front of me. Not only would I see how hard she worked being a single mother raising two kids she instilled that in my brother and I. We had a chores list everyday. She made sure we got our school work done and to a certain standard. She did not believe in half-assing anything. She also made sure we were involved in sports. That’s where I developed my work ethic as well. Being around other athletes who were better helped push me. What I found was the best athletes on the team always put in extra work and maximum effort. So if I wanted to be on their level I would do the same.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I love to play basketball and I think that’s a great place to begin my story. I’m originally from Cleveland, Ohio. And I played 2 years of college basketball at Ohio Dominican University before transferring to Bowling Green State University where I got my degree in Sports Management with a specialization in Marketing. I later played a season of professional overseas basketball in Nicaragua. After that I decided to put basketball down and enter the workforce. I soon realized a piece of me was missing. With basketball I was always striving for something and now it just felt like I was existing. I then happened to see a few of my friends I went to school with back in the day doing modeling and asked how they got involved in that. They gave me some tips on how to apply and reach out to agencies and with their guidance I landed a talent agency. From there I was doing modeling work part time while working full time for a few years. I loved it! I got to work with brands I always heard of Jared Jewelers, Smuckers, Folgers Coffee, Bed Bath and Beyond etc… But it was tough being available for gigs with a full time job. I was told I couldn’t use my pto and get days off for gigs, and my managers would say “[insert company] should be your number one priority”. In my mind I thought of this as my side business so modeling was my number one priority. In 2020 when Covid hit I had an epiphany I was going to quit my full time job, and pursue my modeling career full time. Not only that I decided I wanted to be an actor. I immediately starting taking acting classes and doordashing everyday, 10 hrs a day to pay rent. I was available to take on any job and audition for any role that came up. I started to catch fire and I was booking at least two gigs a month. I even started getting commercial acting roles, I landed an industrial acting role with Junior Achievement USA, and a couple independent films. One of them “Our Terrible Son” can be seen on YouTube. My biggest achievement was working on set of the Lebron James film Shooting Stars on Peacock. I was working with the main actors for 2-3 months helping them with basketball plays for the movie. By this time I decided I wanted to try going to a bigger market. It was between Atlanta and Los Angeles. And I knew actors and writing friends in LA making things happen so that’s where I decided to go. I moved to LA in May of 2023. I’m currently taking classes, attending networking events, and auditioning for roles through actors access and casting networks. I have not landed an agency or a gig in LA yet but understand it’s a process and things take time. Luckily I’m still signed to my agencies back home Docherty Talent Agency and Heyman Talent Agency that send me auditions from time to time back in Ohio/Pennsylvania.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I would say being personable, having the ability to see opportunity in failure, and staying prepared are the three most important skills/qualities that impacted me on my journey. And for anyone looking to gain or improve these skills/qualities should look for an example of these qualities in other people and study it. Whether that’s in real life or even someone super successful like a celebrity and learn their story. Also be open to risks and being uncomfortable. Going places by yourself and starting conversations with random people. You have to change your mindset to the person you want to be.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I’m 1000% looking to connect with other actors, writers, directors and producers on all levels to make their projects come to life. Whether it’s and independent film, YouTube series and or creating content. And I can be reached on Instagram @brycecylar or through email @ bcylar@gmail.com.
