Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Buffs On Podcast. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Buffs , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I believe we all bring different perspectives to this question.
Gabe: As a wise fish one said, “just keep swimming”. While Dory might not be the first example of resilience that most people think of, I have kept those words in my head since I first saw Finding Nemo. Whether it’s a long hike, a bike ride, the daily gym grind, or recording pods for two years when the Pistons were abysmal, I just have to keep swimming. Every step, every pedal, every push past my comfort zone is a necessary step to get to where I want to be.
Vali: Resiliency is an empowering trait to have and is a life long commitment to build resilience. Several moments in life have led to adding on the continuous battle of building resilience. The most glaring moment was in 2019, when I tore my LCL, ACL, and PCL while damaging cartilage in the process. This moment took away the ability to play sports at the same level but I knew I always wanted to be involved in sport. Fast forward 6 years, and I graduated with a degree in sport management and have the privilege of being a co-founder and co-host of the Buffs On Podcast.
Amit: As a legally blind person, resiliency is a must. As someone who is often overlooked, undervalued, and quickly dismissed, resiliency has become a key trait in my journey through life. I am a University of Michigan graduate who is one of the founders of a podcast where I run all of our social media accounts, as well as create the majority of all graphics, reels, and videos we publish. Yet, I am still the guy who is glanced over because all people see is that I have a disability. I have been told “no” or “you can’t do that” more times than I can count. Even trying to find a job after graduation has been a struggle. Life can knock you down, but you’re never out. Because I know that if I follow my passion and continue to fight until that one day when someone gives me an opportunity, it will be the best decision they would have ever made

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Resiliency, Determination, Adaptability. Being a content creator for a podcast is extremely difficult and being legally blind does not make the task any easier. The first two years of our podcast saw two of the worst seasons in Pistons’ history. There were times when audience engagement may not meet your expectations, a post you pour your heart and soul into may not make the splash you hoped, and there will always be haters. Developing a thick skin, learning to change with the times, and trying to find your special touch are all ongoing challenges. I can’t say that these challenges will ever fade, but what I can say is that being confident in your ability goes a long way. The content you create may not be for everyone and that is okay. Do what makes you happy, don’t let the opinion of someone else deter you from pursuing your dream. I was once hesitant to make a post, so I asked Vali what his opinion was and he encouraged me to publish the post. I mentioned how being a legally blind content creator may be a poor career choice and he gave me advice I try to always hold onto, he said, ”I am a firm believer in following your passion.” I say this to remind everyone that we should do what makes us happy, whether it be at work, or life in general, following your passion is always a solid choice.
