Meet Butter

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Butter a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Butter, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
My generosity comes from from appreciating small things, and what I did not have. I was born from a family of generous, loving people. My mother was very generous. She’s very caring I’m a born nurture I’m a my mother, so I love freely and openly so I always like to see people smile, it takes more energy to be mean negative or selfish so I choose a ladder.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Being a tattoo artist, my goal is to be better everyday. To elevate. I love telling stories thru my art and knowing how I touch peoples lives, and also leaving a legacy for my 3 boys. Currently I am starting my tattoo tour with Ladies Of Ink. Touring states all over the USA at conventions. I also have art works I sell, displayed in my studio. Currently while I’m traveling, I am working on my book, which is a collection of my poetry.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I always had a natural talent for art, I’ve been drawing and doing all forms of art since I was a kid. With some advice that was impactful for me was to always be myself. Don’t be afraid to be myself and stand on what I love because those that are meant to have my pieces will. Enjoy them and if they don’t like it and it’s not for them and it’s OK because my work isn’t for everyone.. Advice I would have for someone I would say, you’re never too good to learn and grow. always be open and stay humble because there’s always someone better than you in some areas but no one is better at being you than you.
Ask questions but be open to constructive criticism. You can learn a lot by just watching and listening.. if it’s your passion, stay on it , live it. Breathe it live in it.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I’m a big believer in meditating taking time to myself, having me time praying and just stopping and reflecting on the great things that are happening so I don’t get overwhelmed and feel like I’m not doing something because when I reflect back and look at where I used to be, and I realize how far I’ve came, and those things help me get through times I’m feeling overwhelmed. I have to remember that. I can’t do everything all the time being an artist my mind is always running, so I feel like I have a lot to do so I have to take a moment sometimes just do nothing
