Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Caitlin Locascio-king. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Caitlin, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?
I started my law practice in the spring of 2011. I had a four month old baby, a car payment and student loans. Quitting my job so that I could have the flexibility to build my work schedule around my child came with no option to fail. In fact, I had to be profitable from day one – or we could lose everything. I was determined to succeed and I was determined to not keep my baby home with me in the process and self-discipline was crucial in getting to where I am today. It would have been so easy to give up during the hard times or procrastinate during the hard days but I kept my eye squarely on what I needed to achieve to be happy in my life. Fast forward nearly 14 years later and that same self-discipline has now taken both of my businesses to levels I could have never dreamed off back in my tiny first house in the tiny spare room with a tiny desk (and a pack’n’play) just trying to get by.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’ve been an attorney for 14 years, focusing on estate planning and small business law. About eight years ago, I stumbled into social media marketing by accident. As an avid supporter of small businesses, I would tag and share the Etsy and e-commerce shops I purchased from. My background in (very amateur!) photography meant my images were high-quality, helping these businesses gain traction. Before long, they were sending me products in exchange for sharing posts, which led to conversations, relationships, and a realization: many of these incredibly talented artisans weren’t natural business owners.
I started helping them out—giving advice, tweaking strategies, and seeing the impact in real time. My wheels started turning. I saw huge opportunities for these businesses, and less than a year later, I was formally working with dozens of shops and managing a Facebook group of over 15,000 engaged members. The result? Years of my clients achieving seven-figure sales.
By 2022, as the economy shifted again, I realized I had two distinct but powerful skill sets—law and social media/digital marketing—and it was time to bring them together. I founded Modern Marketing Legal, and earlier this year, I launched Magenta Fusion Brandworks, our dedicated branding division.
What makes Magenta special is that we don’t just create logos or websites—we build brand ecosystems. We look at a business holistically, ensuring that every element—from visual identity to social media presence—works together seamlessly to attract and retain the right audience. We blend creativity with strategy, pairing design with data-driven marketing. And we do it with heart. We care deeply about the businesses we work with, because we know what it takes to stand out in a crowded market.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three qualities have been the most impactful in my journey: adaptability, strategic creativity, and relationship-building.
Adaptability: My career has been anything but linear. I started as an attorney, specializing in estate planning and small business law. When I stumbled into social media marketing, I could have dismissed it as a side interest, but instead, I embraced the opportunity. Business—and life—rarely go according to plan, so the ability to pivot, learn new skills, and evolve is invaluable.
Advice: Stay open to unexpected opportunities. Don’t box yourself into a single path just because it’s what you originally set out to do. The most successful people aren’t just experts—they’re problem-solvers who are willing to adapt.
Strategic Creativity: I’ve always loved the creative side of business, from photography to branding to content creation. But creativity alone isn’t enough—it needs strategy. I’ve built successful brands and helped clients scale because I understand not just how to make things look great, but how to make them work. Whether it’s social media, website design, or legal strategy, I approach every challenge with a balance of innovation and data-driven decision-making.
Advice: Creativity without strategy is just noise. If you’re building a brand, don’t just focus on aesthetics—learn about consumer behavior, marketing funnels, and engagement strategies. The most impactful work happens where creativity and strategy intersect.
Relationship-Building: My business has been built on genuine connections. Whether it was supporting small Etsy shops early on, growing a community of 15,000+ engaged members, or launching Magenta Fusion Brandworks, every success I’ve had has come from prioritizing relationships over transactions. People work with those they trust.
Advice: Invest in your network and build real relationships. Whether it’s clients, peers, or mentors, your community will be your biggest asset. Engage, collaborate, and offer value without expecting an immediate return. Long-term success is built on dependability and authenticity.
For anyone early in their journey, my biggest piece of advice is this: Say yes to opportunities, even if they scare you. Growth happens when you step outside of what feels safe. Stay curious, be adaptable, and surround yourself with people who push you to think bigger.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Whenever I feel overwhelmed with my businesses, I always center myself with a big to=do list session. I love to-do lists. And, while I make them on my computer, I always print off the first page and have it next to my computer. There is nothing – absolutely nothing – more satisfying than picking up my pen and making a checkmark or an X or a big strikethrough when a task is a complete. Taking a few minutes to ground myself, organize and prioritize puts everything into perspective and breaks the mountain of tasks into a manageable workflow.
