We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Caitlin Martinez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Caitlin below.

Caitlin, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?

My self-discipline comes from being a business owner with only one employee— me. There are days where i’ve had a rough night, feeling a little sick, sad or just feeling down about myself, but at the end of the day if I am not self-disciplined enough to show up for myself and my clients the show does not go on. I am so fortunate and grateful for my clients that keep me booked about months in advance with that being said, I feel it is my duty to be reliable for them. In all honesty I wouldn’t be where I am today without my clients, you can do the best nails in the world but with zero clients you have zero income so I repay them with my self-discipline.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

KittyClaws Beauty Bar specializes in detailed-dry manicures, structured gel overlays and soft gel extensions. Detailed-dry manicures became all the craze in the recent years and I fell in love immediately. I quickly came to the conclusion I cannot draw detailed art on tiny finger nails, which discouraged me for an amount of time however it also encouraged me to focus on precise, clean manicures and it helped me attract my perfect clientele. I then became 3x certified in dry manicures and structured gel overlays and made sure I became one of the best at what I do. I specialize in clean manicures, rehabilitation and reconstruction, however I can still do cute funky art, 3D art and bright manicures as well. My next venture and newest addition to our beauty bar is permanent jewelry. I am so excited to launch this new service for all clients as an add-on service and as an opportunity to attend private parties and pop ups.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back I think the most important qualities have to be resilience, consistency and being genuine. To be honest, you will have slow times, hard times and confusing times in every type of business and thats just life, you must be resilient to be a business owner, every day you will deal with an obstacle and thats ok, the part that matters is how you react moving forward. Being consistent is also key because unless you play the lottery one time and win…. nothing happens overnight. Consistency is what will bring you change and success, the more time you spend on any one task the better you will get at it, naturally. Lastly being genuine is what will encourage your clientele to come back. In any service-based industry of course your main concern should be providing a top quality service and with that comes customer service. Back to what i was saying earlier, you can do the best nails in the world, but if the client doesn’t vibe with YOU or like what you are about they are most likely not going to come back. Most clients want to feel seen, appreciated, relaxed and valued while getting a service done and i think its part of the service-providers job to provide that to them. Be yourself, do good and you will receive the same in return.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was teach me about hard work, if you want something you work for it if you don’t work you will not receive the things you want. They taught me that things are never handed to you willingly and if they are they most likely have some type of strings attached and we don’t need that. Although they have taught me this, they have also taught and shown me their love for my sister and I is unconditional. My mom and dad would do anything my sister and I at the drop of a dime and they don’t expect much in return because they just love us. My mom is the first person I call whenever I have a problem and i’ll probably never take her off as my emergency contact. My dad can fix any problems I have whether it be broken chair, e file or long day where I just need a beer after work or chilaquiles in the morning I know I can always count on him. My parents although they are divorced have both shaped me to be strong, independent, genuine and hard working and I could not appreciate them more for that because at the end of the day they made me who I am today those are the values I have for my business and myself because of them.
