Meet Caitlin Rutherford

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Caitlin Rutherford. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Caitlin, great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.

I can’t pinpoint an exact moment when I started taking risks, but I do remember a gradual shift in my perspective on life. Over time, I came to understand that the most meaningful experiences often lie just beyond our comfort zones. One day, it simply clicked for me: I could either let fear and the opinions of others dictate my choices, or I could lean into uncertainty and see where it might lead. Since then, I’ve embraced a personal motto — “If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try.” This philosophy has shaped how I approach both personal and professional decisions. It has encouraged me to pursue opportunities that challenge me, to adapt quickly to change, and to see risk not as something to avoid, but as a chance to grow. In my experience, each risk I’ve taken has expanded my skills, broadened my perspective, and built the confidence to take on the next challenge with even greater intention even if it scares me.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My journey as an influencer began in 2020, right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many people, I was looking for a creative outlet during that time — something that would keep me inspired and connected. I started posting fun, unfiltered moments: outfit-of-the-day looks, bits of my everyday life, and snapshots of my personal fashion perspective. At first, it was purely for fun. But slowly, my audience began to grow. One by one, people connected with my style, my authenticity, and my approach to content.

What started as a hobby soon became a passion and, eventually, a professional path. Today, I’m part of a dynamic influencer community, collaborating regularly with brands I admire and producing user-generated content that allows me to bring their vision to life. For me, the most exciting part of this work is the creative challenge — digging deep to create content that not only tells a story but also aligns with both a brand’s values and my own personal brand. It’s in that sweet spot where strategy and creativity meet that I feel most inspired.

This year, I’m thrilled to be returning to New York Fashion Week, where I’ve been invited to capture and share exclusive behind-the-scenes content. It’s an experience that blends my love for fashion, storytelling, and connection all in one. Looking to the future, I’m eager to expand my personal brand even further — with dreams of launching my own business that reflects my style, creativity, and the community I’ve built over the years.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three things that have made the biggest difference in my journey are adaptability, consistency, and authenticity.

Adaptability was huge for me because social media changes so quickly — trends come and go, algorithms shift, and new platforms pop up all the time. I learned early on that you can’t be afraid to experiment and evolve. Sometimes the thing you thought wouldn’t work becomes the thing your audience loves the most.

Consistency is what kept my growth moving forward. Even in the early days when my audience was small, I made a commitment to show up, post regularly, and engage with the people who supported me. Over time, that steady effort built trust with both my audience and the brands I now work with.

And then there’s authenticity — honestly, this has been the most important one. There’s a lot of noise online, and it can be tempting to just follow what everyone else is doing. But staying true to my own style, voice, and values is what helped me build a genuine community. People can feel when you’re being real with them, and that’s what keeps them coming back.

If I could give one piece of advice to someone just starting out, it would be this: Stay open to change, keep showing up even when it feels slow, and never lose sight of what makes you you. That’s the ultimate hook— and it’s the one thing no one else can copy.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Right now, most of my collaborations are in the skincare space, and I’ve truly loved partnering with brands that align with my personal routines and values. Skincare has been such a fun area to create in because it’s so relatable — everyone has their own rituals and favorite products — and I get to share ones I genuinely believe in.

That being said, fashion has always been at the heart of my content, and I’m excited to grow that side of my collaborations again. In the past, I’ve worked with brands like Princess Polly, Nuuly, and Bright Swimwear, and those projects reminded me how much I love bringing a brand’s vision to life through styling, storytelling, and photography. There’s something so special about taking a piece of clothing or an accessory and showing people how it can fit into their lives in a fresh and inspiring way.

I’m especially drawn to working with fashion brands that value creativity, authenticity, and connection with their audience. Whether it’s producing UGC content, shooting campaign imagery, or sharing a behind-the-scenes look at a collection launch, I love finding ways to make a brand’s story feel alive.

If you’re reading this and think we’d be a good fit, you can connect with me on Instagram — that’s where you’ll find my work, my style, and a glimpse into the projects I’m most passionate about. I’m always open to new ideas and collaborations that bring something meaningful and creative to the table.
