We recently connected with Caleb Folkerts and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Caleb, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
My optimism is rooted in two places: faith and experience. As a person of faith, I believe there’s a deeper purpose at work—even in life’s hardest moments—which gives me hope beyond what I can see. And professionally, working in mental health has shown me again and again how resilient people are. I’ve watched individuals rise from unimaginable circumstances, rebuild their lives, and find meaning in their pain. That kind of transformation isn’t just inspiring—it’s contagious. It reminds me daily that change is always possible, and that no matter how heavy things feel, light is still breaking through.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m the founder and clinical director of Cornerstone Behavioral Health, a virtual mental health practice that provides therapy and psychiatric care to adults throughout Ohio. What makes our work special is the intentional way we blend clinical excellence with genuine human connection; meeting people where they are, both emotionally and geographically, through telehealth.
What excites me most is witnessing how therapy can radically change the course of someone’s life. We’ve worked with survivors of trauma, professionals battling burnout, and individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, and grief; and seeing them find clarity, healing, and direction is incredibly rewarding.
Beyond therapy, I also work as a leadership trainer and mental performance coach, helping entrepreneurs, executives, and community leaders develop emotional intelligence and resilience. I believe mental health isn’t just about healing. It’s about thriving. That’s the heartbeat of our brand.
Right now, we’re expanding into partnerships with domestic violence shelters and veteran networks, and we’re launching a free downloadable mental health planner to help individuals stay grounded and intentional throughout the year. Whether someone is in crisis or just feeling stuck, we want to be the place they can turn to for real, compassionate support.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Emotional resilience gave me the ability to face setbacks without losing momentum. Working in mental health, and building a business around it, requires a deep capacity to hold space for others while also managing your own energy. My advice to others: invest in your own healing and self-awareness first. You can’t pour from an empty cup.
Strategic thinking helped me scale a vision without losing sight of the mission. Especially in private practice, you have to balance clinical integrity with business decisions. I learned to treat every challenge as a design problem and every constraint as an opportunity. For those starting out: learn to think in systems. Read broadly (business, psychology, leadership, etc.) and surround yourself with people who think differently than you do.
Finally, servant leadership has been my compass. Whether I’m mentoring clinicians, coaching leaders, or sitting with a client in crisis, I try to lead with humility and purpose. My advice? Never underestimate the power of listening deeply and lifting others up. It’s where real influence begins.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Absolutely—we’re always open to meaningful partnerships and collaborations. At Cornerstone Behavioral Health, we’re especially interested in connecting with aligned professionals and organizations who share our commitment to accessible, high-quality mental health care. That includes:
Therapists, coaches, and clinical supervisors interested in joining or collaborating with a purpose-driven, virtual team.
Primary care providers, community organizations, and nonprofits looking to integrate mental health services or offer referrals for vulnerable populations.
Veteran networks, domestic violence shelters, and advocacy groups seeking trauma-informed support and wraparound care for their members.
Corporate leaders or HR teams interested in mental wellness workshops, leadership development, or mental performance coaching for their teams.
