Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Caleigh & Sara Heeg & Sutherland. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Caleigh & Sara, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome has been a recurring theme for both of us, but we’ve found strength in our partnership. There’s something about having someone in your corner who not only understands the doubts but also calls you out when you start to spiral. Whenever one of us feels like we don’t belong or aren’t ‘qualified enough,’ the other steps in with a reality check (or sometimes just laughter, which works just as well).
Being able to lean on each other has been our biggest asset. We remind ourselves that no one really knows everything, and that’s the beauty of podcasting – it’s about learning, evolving, and showing up as our authentic selves. We often use the phrase ‘Fake it ’til we make it!’ Our audience connects with the fact that we don’t pretend to have all the answers. In fact, a lot of our episodes start with, ‘We Googled this five minutes ago.’
We’ve come to embrace the chaos and imperfections as part of what makes us relatable. So, instead of trying to fight imposter syndrome, we’ve learned to laugh at it and keep going – together.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
We’re Caleigh and Sara, co-hosts of *Nacho Fitness Coach,* a podcast born out of two friends with completely different approaches to fitness – but a shared love of laughing through the chaos. Our podcast is a mix of real talk, fitness myths, and the kind of conversations you’d have with your best friend at the gym (if you could stop laughing long enough to actually work out).
The idea for the podcast came naturally. Sara has always been the ‘Type A’ fitness expert – organized, knowledgeable, and fully immersed in health and wellness. Caleigh, on the other hand, is newer to the fitness world, and is constantly trying to figure out which advice is legit and which is nonsense. We realized that our dynamic – one of us living and breathing fitness while the other tries to survive it – led to some great, honest conversations. One day, we thought, ‘Why not record this and share it with others?’
That’s how *Nacho Fitness Coach* was born – out of the realization that the fitness industry can feel overwhelming, confusing, and sometimes a little ridiculous. We wanted to create a space where people could learn, laugh, and feel like they’re not alone in the process.
One of the cornerstones of our episodes is diving into viral fitness trends or the latest advice from social media influencers. We break down what’s real, what’s fluff, and what’s best left in the ‘nope’ category. Alongside that, we interview a range of guests – from health and fitness experts to everyday people on their wellness journeys. Our guests have shared insights on topics like meal prep, motivation, overcoming addiction, and even GLP-1 weight loss medications. Whether it’s someone with an inspiring transformation or someone just getting started, we’re passionate about highlighting real stories our listeners can connect with and learn from.
We love connecting with people who feel overwhelmed by fitness culture. Our goal is to cut through the noise, debunk myths, and remind people that you don’t need a six-pack to live a healthy, balanced life. If you’ve ever Googled something like ‘How many calories are in an entire pizza?’ while eating it, you’ll probably feel right at home with us.
As for what’s new – we’re rolling into the second half of Season 5, with topics ranging from unnecessary fitness gadgets to the affects of alcohol on the quality of sleep. We’re also excited about upcoming collaborations, new guests, and finding creative ways to engage with our community on social media.
At the end of the day, *Nacho Fitness Coach* is about making health and wellness feel a little more human – and a lot more fun.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in our journey have been:
1. Consistency (even when we didn’t feel like it): Showing up, hitting record, and publishing episodes regularly has been key. It’s easy to let perfectionism or doubt get in the way, but we’ve learned that done is better than perfect. Our advice – just start. Even if your first episode (or project) isn’t your best work, consistency will get you further than waiting for the ‘right moment.’
2. Humor and Authenticity: We didn’t try to fit into the mold of typical fitness podcasts. Instead, we embraced our personalities – Sara’s knowledge and passion, and Caleigh’s beginner mindset and humor. People resonate with authenticity, and the more we leaned into who we are, the stronger our connection with listeners became. Our advice – be yourself. Don’t try to copy what’s already out there. Your uniqueness is your strength.
3. A Willingness to Learn: Podcasting was a new world for both of us, and we’ve Googled *a lot* along the way. From audio editing to social media growth, we stayed curious and open to learning new skills. Our advice – approach every step with curiosity. You don’t have to know everything right away; just be willing to learn as you go.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Absolutely! We love collaborating with people who bring fresh ideas, unique perspectives, and a good sense of humor – whether that’s fellow podcasters, fitness professionals, health experts, or just interesting people with a story to share. We’re especially interested in guests who can dive into wellness topics without making it feel intimidating or overly serious.
If you’ve got something to say (and can handle a little chaos), we’d love to hear from you! The best way to connect with us is through our Instagram [@NachoFitnessCoach] (https://www.instagram.com/nachofitnesscoach) or by emailing us at nachofitnesscoach@gmail.com.
