We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cameisha Brewer Ed.S.,LPC a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cameisha , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose through being completely fascinated with human behavior. I always wanted to understand why people did the things that they did, and for those who struggled with healthy behaviors, I wanted to understand how to help them. Through studying psychology, I learned a deeper level of empathy for people who are challenged with living their daily lives. I found purpose–first as a mental health therapist and later as a business consultant–through creating personalized solutions to help my clients change their lives and get results.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
The services I provide are business coaching and online courses for new therapists. The problem I solve for new therapists is teaching them the business side of building a private practice so they can stop stressing about how they will be able to provide for their families and start doing meaningful clinical work.
I also provide speaking and consulting services for businesses, colleges, and non-profit organizations to teach those in leadership positions how to be mentally healthy.
What’s exciting and special about my career is being able to genuinely help people. I value developing deep relationships with the people I serve. The people in my coaching programs and courses are not just numbers to me. They are people who are destined to make an impact in the world.
My brand is growing and I am on a new mission to take mental health education into spaces where it is not traditionally discussed. I am focusing more on the mental health of business professionals, entrepreneurs, healthcare providers and anyone who is in a service-based profession. Those people need empathetic mental health treatment and solution-focused skills now more than ever. They need help managing the stress of what they do on a daily basis.
I’m also excited to have just published my second book, The CEO Clinician, which is a roadmap for mental health therapists who are ready to build a private practice but are unsure of where to start.
“When leaders are mentally healthy, they can change the world without hurting people in the process.”

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One major skill that has been impactful in my journey is developing quality relationships. A large part of my marketing comes from referrals and testimonials. My clients refer other people to me all the time. We value making sure each and every person who works with us feels valued, appreciated, and well-served.
Another valuable skill is knowing how to create a high touch point customer service experience. We want our clients and customers to enjoy their time working with us and get results. We treat people well. We care about how they feel. We check in with them through each phase to make sure we are providing them with excellent service because it matters.
Lastly, something I’m currently practicing is having the wisdom and courage to know when to pivot when something isn’t working. Instead of internalizing the belief that I’m a failure, I realize that it just means the market is changing, the economy is changing, and the industry is changing. At this point in my journey, I’m learning to pivot with the trends but stay true to what I value the most, which is people.
How would you describe your ideal client?
An ideal therapist client for me, as a business consultant, is someone who is fully licensed and has been working in the field of mental health in a group practice or agency for a few years now, but they are exhausted and ready to do whatever it takes to learn how to build a private practice.
This person is anxious about the business side of private practice, struggling with a positive mindset about building a private practice, has yet to learn how and where to attract ideal clients, and has self-doubt about setting rates and getting paid.
An ideal mental health consulting client is an organization looking to implement mental health education and coping skills in their workplace. This organization’s leadership has an authentic desire to shift the climate around mental health for their entire team.
