Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cameron Alford. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Cameron, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic is something that started at the beginning of my military service. I’ve always had dreams and goals in my life. In order to achieve said dreams and goals, I know that takes hard work. So, every decision I’ve made that impacts my life has always been a decision I’ve felt would get me one step closer to my dreams and goals in life. I work hard for myself. I work hard for my family. I work hard because I have dreams to reach and places to be.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Right now, I’m currently teaching English to children in China with my wife and our one year old daughter. We’ve been here since late April of this year and, for the most part, we’re having an amazing time! We’ve hit a few bumps in the road since being here but that’s life right?! I really love and enjoy working with kids and this is my first time in over 15 years working with them in a classroom setting. It has been quite the learning experience for me for sure but it’s a breeze for my wife! She makes it look and sound easy! The current plan is for us to spend a year or two here before returning to the states. Specifically Los Angeles where I’ve been admitted to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
For me, I would say consistency, patience and dedication. It’s honestly all about knowing what you want out of life, going for it and not taking no for an answer. Even if you get the occasional no, get back up and keep moving. As long as you’re willing to continue to do the work to reach your goals, you’ll never lose. Setbacks are going to happen but it’s what you do in those moments that count the most!
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Twelve months ago, to this day, I was not a parent. I wasn’t going to be a parent for another two weeks. I was calm on the outside for my wife but on the inside I was in absolute panic. Would I be a good father? Would I do something wrong or mess up? Am I going to fail? Could I handle this financially? There was so much negativity in my mind from fear that I had a hard time keeping it together and many a night I didn’t sleep. Then my daughter was born and a lot of those fears went away. I still occasionally question if I’m doing this whole parenting gig correctly but I think that’s normal for new parents. I’ve grown so much in the past year because of my daughter and it forced me to see the world in a completely different light from a different perspective.
