Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cameron Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Cameron , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my parents. And when I say my parents I mean ALL my parents. I was lucky enough to not only have two great parents of my own who set a wonderful example for me, but also several other friends parents who basically took me in as their own kid. I got to witness so many different examples of working hard, showing up every day, and doing what it takes to support your friends/family/dreams. That affected me a lot, and they probably have no idea haha. I owe a lot to all my moms & dads, they did a great job raising me.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
So I own and run a production company. We provide professional videography & photography services in 3 main categories: Commercial Branding, Weddings & Engagements, & Film/Creative Visuals. I think for me the most exciting thing about what I do is showing others how strong of an impact photo & video can have on our lives. I’ve always had an interest in it growing up, but I never knew how powerful it was until I got the courage to pursue my career with my passion. I’ve grown my business to 5 figures+ per month using the power of photo & video. I’ve helped other business owners solve problems, achieve goals, and grow their businesses exponentially using photo & video. I’ve captured some of the best moments of peoples lives on their wedding days, and transformed visions of creativity into reality – all using photo & video. It has the power to tell a story, it has the power to capture emotion & feeling, and it has the power to change and impact lives.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Communication Is Key
Throughout my entire career the number one thing that has always increased in value is communication. It governs so many different aspects of learning the craft & growing your business, it feels impossible to list them all. But someone who is a strong communicator will always go far. In a VERY generalized summary – a person with good communication skills is the person who is able to make connections with people, its the person who is able to listen & learn from others, and its the person who is able to create a community that supports their goals & their business.
2. Stay Humble, Work Hard
This one is a given. Always work like you’re starting from square one, and don’t get a big head. I feel like inevitably, at some point everyone reaches a point where it feels okay to let off the gas a little. Sometimes it may actually be okay, other times it may just be a little success getting you too excited. Regardless of whichever one it is – don’t change a thing. I had a taste of this myself when I made my first 100k in sales. All it ended up doing is making me lose sight of my actual goals. That period was short lived, and I came back down to earth pretty quickly. No matter how successful you get, keep working hard & stay humble with your grind.
3. Make It A Lifestyle.
One of the hardest things about being an entrepreneur/growing my own business was getting down work life balance. I almost 10 years into the business & still haven’t figured it all out yet haha. But I’ve gotten a lot better by recognizing that being an entrepreneur isn’t just a job or career choice – its a lifestyle. It takes a certain type of person to work and want to grow in this field. For me a lot of my own ideals naturally aligned with it so what i just described wasn’t always very apparent to me. But as my business grew, new challenges arose and I quickly learned that the secret to overcoming these challenges was to stop keeping everything so cookie cutter in my head and commit to making it my own lifestyle. Once I did this, I was able to create solutions that works specifically for me, and find much better balance between my personal life & business.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
I think the most impactful thing my parents did for me was encourage/support me to chase my dreams. My parents have always been very supportive of whatever my interests were. And as a kid growing up, naturally you have a lot of interests. They really did a lot to try and give me anything I needed. That plus being encouraging and supportive of those interests – no matter what they were – really had a huge impact on my life. Looking back, I think it taught me that its okay to explore, take chances, and try new things. You don’t always have to play things by the book, as long as your pursuing something like and giving it your all, thats where you should be.
