Meet Cameron Hightower

We were lucky to catch up with Cameron Hightower recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Cameron, so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?

I grew up in a small rural town in North Carolina, where it often felt like you were surrounded by limits and didn’t really know what was out there. During my junior year of high school, I was diagnosed with adjustment disorder, which meant I had difficulty adapting to new environments—something that made my world feel even smaller.

In high school, I was involved in a variety of activities like soccer, theater, and different clubs. So I knew I had the potential to take risks—I was just afraid to. When graduation came, I had to decide whether to stay in North Carolina for college or go eight to nine hours away to Penn State University.

Although my family knew going out of state would be more expensive, my mom, in particular, believed it would be one of many great risks worth taking—to help me grow and push past the limits of my disorder. I struggled with the decision, got emotional, and even considered backing out when I found out I’d only be admitted to a branch campus.

Then I received an email saying that if I attended summer school, I’d be eligible to transfer to the main campus. It was another big risk—this was during the COVID year, and my mental health was already fragile due to isolation and limited communication. After thinking it over, I decided to go. My first year was tough, but I realized that if I kept taking risks like the one that got me there, I’d become unstoppable.

So I said yes to every opportunity college had to offer. Eventually, I was able to move and adapt more easily, gaining the courage to move to Los Angeles and start a full-time job and work with amazing talents like Will Smith, Teyana Taylor, industry agents and executives with no sweat right after graduation—just like I had moved from high school to Penn State, where it all started.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m Cameron Hightower, a Los Angeles-based filmmaker and creator specializing in unscripted entertainment. I graduated from Penn State University, where I studied film production and cinematography, building a strong foundation in both creative development and production logistics. I currently work at Worldwide Production Agency, a below-the-line talent agency, where I serve as an assistant to the partner and head of management/accounting.

I’ve always been curious about the people behind the camera—the ones who bring a film to life beyond just the actors and directors. This role has given me a deeper appreciation for the often-overlooked creatives like directors of photography, production designers, and editors. It’s been rewarding to learn the process, put names to the work, and help give credit where credit is due to the incredible talent that makes the magic happen behind the scenes.

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with talent like Will Smith, Teyana Taylor, and Adam Sevani, and I’ve gained valuable industry experience through roles at top talent agencies and management firms. Inspired by formats like *The Traitors*, *Survivor*, and innovative YouTube concepts, I’m now focused on creating and hosting original game shows that combine high-concept formats with compelling, character-driven storytelling.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Since entering Hollywood, one of my greatest strengths has been building connections—sometimes in unconventional ways—which has opened many doors for me. From Penn State alumni to family members and even colleagues’ girlfriends, I make it a point to get to know people well and genuinely listen to their stories. Within every journey, there’s always something interesting—something that can inspire a new idea or become a valuable stepping stone in the entertainment industry.

Another impactful skill I’ve developed is being passionately analytical. For example, my love for watching unscripted and reality TV has led me to study and dissect elements of the shows that inform my own creative projects. Finding something you love and incorporating it into your work is not only beneficial—it’s incredibly motivating.

A key area of growth for me has been gaining knowledge of the behind-the-scenes aspects of the industry. Even when certain parts don’t seem directly related to my role, I make an effort to understand them. Knowing how everything works—even the areas outside your comfort zone—can give you a significant advantage over those who only focus on what they think they need to know. It’s about getting the full picture and doing things the right way.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I’m looking to collaborate with others who are passionate about unscripted content, particularly mini-love or game show-style series. If you have skills in clipping YouTube videos for short-form content on TikTok or Instagram Reels, or if you can offer production services like PA’ing, editing, videography, or casting, I’d love to connect.

I have an upcoming love-themed series titled “Close Your Umbrella or Find Love” that begins shooting in January, and I’m building a great team to bring it to life.

If you’re interested in collaborating, feel free to reach out!
