Meet Cameron London

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cameron London. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cameron below.

Cameron, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?
I grew up in a disciplined household. My parents were clear in their expectations of me but they also never forced me to do any activities I didn’t want to do. However, once I made a commitment to something they made sure to hold me accountable for seeing it through until the end. That mindset of honoring my commitments followed me into adulthood and is a key part in how create music and run the business. Once I say I’ll do something I do everything in my power to get it done. Sometimes I’m disciplined to a fault. I’ll get tunnel vision and not be able to slow down and enjoy a moment until I finish the work that needs to get done.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a music artist & engineer. I’m also the founder of 1033 Records & have been working in music for 15 years. Outside of music, I teach in my local school system. My label, 1033 Records, is named and operated out of the home my grandparents left us. A more appropriate way to describe 1033 would be to call it an “artist development company”. While traditional record label structures benefit the label, the way I’ve structured 1033 is to benefit the individual artists growth as an overall musician. Our current artists, Popcasso, Slim Haylee, Vika, Olivia Caspall, and Mas Mang have all been working on new music but also building business of their own.

On a more personal level, I’m working on a few different projects for the remainder of 2023 & 2024. Instrumental albums, EPs, and a traditional album. Right now I’m just exploring all my creative avenues and seeing what can come of it to benefit both 1033 and the artists associated.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’d have to say discipline, perseverance, and a willingness to learn. When it comes to succeeding at my goals I’ve had to learn to thrive despite failure. Every failure I had, every no that I was given, was never a deterrent. I look back at those moments and see what I did poorly but also what I did well and I do my best to improve the next time I attempt it. There was a fear of being judged for failure that consumed me as a kid, but as an adult I know that those moments of failure are just a small moment. I would advise everyone to reshape their perception of failure and view it as an opportunity to learn and improve. Failure is an inevitable part of success.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
They told me at a young age, “you’re no better than anyone, but you’re no worse than anyone either.” That advice is the main reason I’m where I am today. I treat everyone with the same respect regardless of status. But I’m also confident in my capabilities and don’t allow social status to intimidate me. Of course they have supported me in emotional, mental, and financial ways at times, but making sure I was respectful, humble, and confident has been the most impactful.
