Meet Cameron Teeter

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cameron Teeter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Cameron , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

For me, discovering my purpose involved truly understanding my natural talents, envisioning my ideal work life, and pursuing my entrepreneurial aspirations. Transitioning careers as a single mother after a divorce was undoubtedly challenging. However, my desire for a fulfilling career where I could leverage my strengths and succeed propelled me forward. I knew I wanted to blend creativity with helping others, which led me to the world of medical tattooing. Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to building a thriving business in this field.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Medical tattooing is incredibly rewarding. I love helping people feel more confident in their bodies. Many clients seek my help to conceal conditions like vitiligo or scars. I use custom skin-toned inks to improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks. Specially designed serums tattooed into the skin further enhance these results. I’m always exploring new methods to improve client outcomes. There are so many different reasons people search out my services and each day brings new challenges; I never know what unique challenge will walk through my door. And I look forward to it each day! Recently, I have begun to plan a training course so that I may help others who are interested in this field to learn medical tattoo techniques.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. A desire to never stop learning keeps you at the forefront of new techniques, products, and safety protocols, which are constantly evolving in the medical and artistic fields.
2. Openness and acceptance of people are crucial when working with clients who may be in vulnerable situations or seeking transformative services after medical procedures. Building trust and making them feel comfortable is paramount.
3. A creative mindset brings together my understanding of tattoo skills and skin science and actively seek new ways to combine them to address unique challenges.
A friend once commented that he admired my termination. He said ” You set your mind to do something and you do it.” The journey may be long, the path unknown but there may be challenges along the way but with determination, if you have the passion for something, it will keep you motivated.

Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?

When I first decided to open my medical tattoo studio, I quickly realized that my passion and skill in the field weren’t enough. While I was confident in my tattooing abilities, my preparation in business management, marketing, and operational logistics was significantly lacking.

This experience taught me a crucial lesson: being excellent at your craft doesn’t automatically translate into business success. You could be the most talented baker in town, but if you can’t effectively reach customers and convince them to try your delicious cakes, your bakery might not thrive.

I see this challenge often in the medical tattoo industry. Many artists believe that simply posting their work on social media will bring in clients. While social media is a valuable tool, it’s frequently not enough on its own to build a sustainable business. It’s just one piece of a much larger puzzle.

So, my strongest advice for anyone looking to open their own business, regardless of their field, is this: be prepared to actively learn and acquire the necessary business skills, or be ready to invest in someone who can help you with these critical areas. Your artistic talent is the heart of your service, but solid business acumen is the backbone that allows it to flourish.
