We recently connected with Cami Stafford and have shared our conversation below.
Cami, so great to have you with us today. There are so many topics we want to ask you about, but perhaps the one we can start with is burnout. How have you overcome or avoided burnout?
Facing burnout is really something I’ve delt with since starting my business. I’m a bridal and event hair and makeup artist so busy season is REALLY busy. Ive learned to set boundaries for my business to avoid burnout. I started by making a “work schedule” just like I would have if I worked a corporate job. For me that schedule looked like this; sunday- OFF, Monday- work from home (emails, phone calls, content creation, etc.) Tuesday- available 9 AM- 12 PM, Wednesday- OFF Thursday-Friday- available 9 AM- 12 PM, Saturday- Weddings Only. Then I also decided to only work 3 Saturdays out of the month. I have 2 kiddos so making sure I’m able to be there for them and not exhausted from overworking myself was extremely important. It’s also become a HUGE part of my life to have daily routines and habits. Those are times I’m not thinking only about my career and planning my next move. I struggled for a while to take the time for myself and only focused on what my next business move was 24/7, which in turn just stressed me out even more. I love taking a daily walk, getting a workout it, fixing myself a nutritious breakfast, then proceeding with what my day holds. But starting my day doing things for myself puts me in a much better headspace and overall helps me to not get burnt out.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m the owner of Glam By Cam LLC. We are a luxury bridal & event hair and makeup artistry team. We service all of Ga & pretty much anywhere you need us. I’m so blessed to be apart of this industry! I get to speak life and be a light into each brides special day as well as make them feel the most beautiful they ever have. We’re one of the first faces you see of the morning! I take that very seriously. The first 15 minutes set the tone of the entire day! We always strive to show up with a smile and positivity!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think the 3 most impactful skills I’ve learned on my journey are: 1. Communication Skills
2. Multitasking
3. The actual skill of doing makeup & hair.
The best advice I can give to anyone early in their journey is to NEVER stop learning. Even if you’re already amazing at your niche, continue to learn and build on it. Learning is such an impactful tool and is what keeps you growing! Without learning, you’ll stay in the same place.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I personally get very easily overwhelmed & overstimulated. I find that taking my daily walk helps me to sort my thoughts. It’s never as bad as it seems. Start with 1 thing that is overwhelming you and just take it step by step. Call a friend and ask for advice if you need to! Or just ask them to listen. Sit down and make a schedule or brainstorm solutions then follow through with action!!
