We were lucky to catch up with Camille Kauer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Camille, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
Self-care at my age, it’s not just a luxury; it’s survival mode. My monthly facials at Blue Water Spa (among other treatments) and sweating it out at OHM Fitness are my secret weapons. They don’t just keep me aging in reverse, but they help me nail down roles meant for 30-year-old roles. At 48, I look like I am in my thirties and I’ve got the energy to match which is a business necessity. I am always testing out new skincare and love Glo Skin Beauty, and Revitalash. For hair, I’ve had constant issues with dry hair prone to breakage but started taking these new vitamins, Phyllotex, and using Mielle haircare and they have been a game changer for my hair and nails. Skincare and treating my body like a prized possession are non-negotiable because, let’s face it, I need to sparkle from 5 am to 9 pm on set. Thank goodness for journaling – the place where I dump my ADHD-inspired wordy brainstorms and figure out if they’re gems or just glittery distractions.
Another form of self-care is volunteering, giving back to my community gives me purpose. I have the pleasure of being the advisor for the Wake County Association of Teen Democrats and they’re always keeping me engaged in local politics and improving our community for the better, they make me confident that Gen Z will make a huge impact on our country for the better. I also volunteer with countless other organizations that have helped me create a network of dreamers, game-changers, and bridgebuilders.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I recently hosted a pilot for a TV show celebrating “Bridge Builders” from NC who shaped history on a national and international stage and I was honored to emcee Dreemfest a celebration devoted to the life of Dr. Matrin Luterh King Jr between researching for both events and creating the script I was inspired to do more with my podcast. I aim to create more positive changes beyond my local community in NC. My podcast, “The E-Spot with Camille,” showcases guests mainly from entertainment and I plan to expand into challenging industries like beauty, fashion, and design. My goal is to continue to share inspiring stories, resources, and life-changing advice to empower dreamers facing obstacles in smaller markets who think their dreams are limited by their area code. I hope to inspire more to go for their dreams and what resources others have used to get past the gatekeepers and become their own “bridgebuilders.” I am thrilled to also announce that after a hugely successful event, I’ve been asked back to emcee the Women’s History Month event. They are even trusting me to help create the event. I am thrilled to be able to share the stage with women who have inspired me and supported my podcast over the years.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The skills I think that have helped me the most are having confidence in my skills, having a good network, knowing how to do my research, and improv acting. Having confidence is crucial for actors, speakers, and podcasters as it enhances my stage presence and captivates audiences. My ability to research and be over-prepared to understand diverse topics, and difficult characters, and present well-informed interviews are paramount in keeping audiences engaged. Improvisation skills are essential for adapting to unexpected situations, fostering spontaneity, and engaging listeners or viewers effectively. Together, these qualities help me work in versatile environments and have a successful performance. In the days of self-taping, you have to be able to see yourself as a director and audience and that takes all three skills to be able to send in your audition.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
I’m incredibly grateful for the unwavering support from Glo Skin Beauty, a brand I’ve cherished since my esthetician days. Their consistent collaboration has been instrumental in keeping my podcast thriving. Over the past two years, Blue Water Spa has been a blessing, not only supporting my beauty goals but also helping me achieve a natural, youthful appearance as I approach 50. Their Esmella machine and Emsculpt Neo have been game-changers, strengthening my core, especially during challenging times with endometriosis. It’s incredible to have new brands reaching out, and trusting me with their projects, especially long-term projects, that aren’t just one-offs. I’m fortunate to partner with clients dedicated to improving women’s lives, a common thread among all my valued clients.
