We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Camille Kauer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Camille below.
Hi Camille, thank you so much for joining us today. There are so many topics we could discuss, but perhaps one of the most relevant is empathy because it’s at the core of great leadership and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your empathy?
Growing up as the perpetual “new kid,” attending 26 different schools across Europe and the U.S., taught me early how to read people, adapt fast, and find connection wherever I landed. I spent years in ESL, voice and diction classes, often feeling behind, and even endured abuse from an elementary teacher, which no child should ever face. But those experiences shaped the core of who I am. They sharpened my empathy, my ability to see the person behind the circumstance, and my instinct to make others feel safe, understood, and valued. It’s a choice for hurt people to hurt people and I for one don’t plan to ever continue that cycle. I volunteer with kids to be a safe space for them and to be the adult I wished I had as a mentor when I was their age. My childhood wasn’t easy but it taught me how powerful compassion can be.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m an actress and media host who’s been fortunate to work across film, television, and podcasting over the years, including an early role as “Betty the Cheerleader” on Dawson’s Creek. Alongside my on-camera work, I’ve spent more than two decades in the beauty industry as an esthetics instructor, spa director, film makeup artist, and radio and TV host. I’ve worn a lot of hats, learned a great deal along the way, and have the scars and stories to show for it.
My pivot into podcasting proved to be magic. My show, The E-Spot with Camille, has earned both global and local recognition, becoming a trusted source for smart conversations with style. I’m so grateful for this wild and wonderful ride in entertainment. I’ve been lucky enough to appear in over 200 commercials and print campaigns, and I still light up every time I get to work on or off camera. None of it happens without my incredible family, my amazing agents at Directions USA, the supportive guests and partners from Blue Water Spa, GalaxyCon, and Animate Raleigh, and of course the E-Spot subscribers who cheer me on every step of the way.
These days, my podcast isn’t just a passion project, it’s a marketing magnet. It’s helps me book work as an actor, podcast producer, and even marketing director for one of the top interior design firms in America. I don’t just wait for opportunities… I attract them. Excited for season 10 to start filming in 2026.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three qualities that shaped my journey the most were adaptability, relationship-building, and storytelling.
Adaptability kept me afloat in an industry that is constantly evolving. From acting to beauty, to radio, to TV, and finally to podcasting, being willing to pivot and actually enjoy the process, opened doors I didn’t even know existed.
Relationship-building has been the secret sauce of my career. Every interview, every creative collaboration, every new opportunity started with genuine connection. When you show up with curiosity, kindness, and a little sparkle, people remember you and better yet want to work with you. If it wasn’t for the kindness of strangers that became friends, I never would have made it this far with my podcast.
And storytelling became my superpower. Whether I was in front of the camera or behind the mic, knowing how to craft a story that resonates is what transformed my podcast, The E-Spot with Camille, into a platform that not only reaches audiences around the world but also books me work. Casting directors and producers don’t just rely on auditions anymore and they can see my personality on my podcast. They see my work ethic because they know how hard creating, editing, and producing a show takes a lot of work. I am always so excited when I met people on set that are E=Spot listeners.
For anyone just starting their journey, here’s my biggest advice:
Stay flexible. Don’t cling so tightly to one path that you miss the detour that leads to your dream job. Invest in your relationships. Send the follow-up message, show up to support others, and build your community before you need it. Practice your storytelling everywhere you can. Your voice is your brand, and the more you own it, the more opportunities will find you. Above all, give yourself permission to grow, evolve, and surprise even you. The magic happens the moment you do.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
My biggest challenge right now is that I still carry the same insecurities I had as a child when I first moved to America; the fear of being misunderstood, overlooked, or just… irrelevant. Even after everything I’ve done, that little voice still likes to nag at me.
I won’t lie: I think about giving up and getting a “normal” job all the time, especially now that my daughter is going off to college soon. But the universe has a funny sense of humor. The moment I start updating my résumé or filling out applications, I’ll suddenly win an award, book a national commercial, or have a guest on my show who reignites every creative spark in my body. And just like that, I remember why I can’t imagine doing anything else.
So right now, what I’m doing to overcome it is learning to trust the signs, trust my gifts, and trust the process, because apparently, it’s not done with me yet.
